Buying and seling woes...

Love the comments, looks like I cant go wrong getting back into a Zed! I don't think there will be any problem, just needs to be a 6 of some sort. Seems tho I might have to consider other colours..

Just for your amusement, here my other car, which will be its stablemate. my daily is a well used Astra estate!View attachment 46344

That is a beauty, I love the E30 325i, I had a saloon for 22 years and always fancied a convertible. :)

This car requires its own thread with lots of pics immediately!

I paid just over a grand for my 2.0l last November and it has been faultless, best money I have ever spent,
But with some investment and your golden hands, worth 5k now!

I paid £5000 for my 2.2 a year ago from a dealer. Low miles at 36k.

When I picked it up three days after leaving a deposit he said he'd had lots of phone calls.

So I'd say there's good demand for correctly priced Z's.

Some dealers are asking high prices, but does anyone know if they achieve them?

I've just sold my 2.0 which was in stunning condition and didn't need a thing doing to it. It had done 135,000 miles and I priced it at £2250 which was just above average for similar ones advertised, albeit in worse condition and without anywhere near half the work I had done to mine. I had hardly any interest, maybe due to the timing but a good car should still sell. The one serious buyer offered me £1800 for it without seeing the car, which I excepted.

The only way I believe a good zed will achieve a decent price is if it is sold to a fellow enthusiast or someone who knows the car, there is simply far too many cheap ones about now to choose from. Most people just want a cheap sports car, run it for a summer or two and sell up so there is no point spending a fortune on one. People bang on about the prices going up and up because they have seen highly priced cars, but they simply are not selling.

I could have asked more for my zed due to the work its had and its condition, but there is too many others on the market that are much lower in price so there was no way I could price it at what it's truly worth as there would simply be no interest. Unless people actually come to see the car and the condition its in then I maybe could achieve a higher price, but why would they when there are millions of others going cheap. If its an enthusiast that knows the insides and outs of a zed then they would see the car for what it's really worth, but them most of us enthusiasts already own ours zeds and don't want another.

That is a 1 minute walk from my house Lee.
I've not been up to see that Dakar Zed yet, just a tad too far, a few more miles than I'd like, but otherwise love it, especially the hardtop! Have you seen it in the flesh?

In haven't but I'd be happy to walk round at the weekend for you and see if it would be worth the journey up.

Marketing is...everything, most of the time!

As far as the photos go it looks a really nice car

Ye agreed but we all know pictures can hide a multitude of horrors! He's got two and the Dakar one is inside.

I'd really appreciate that. I'm looking for a nice car, not a daily in any way, the Astra does that. Thank you!

Yep it's not a problem mate. I'll call in on Saturday afternoon and give it a once over. I'll pm you when I've looked at it.

I've looked at this one a number of times it does look nice in the pictures but that's not always the same in the flesh .
I know certainly with mine there's bits that pictures hide but i see when in front of car

My car looks great from 10mtrs away, especially when it's just been cleaned. If you stand a bit closer it looks it's age, but it's nothing a good detail couldn't put right.

OK @Z3I I got done early today so I've been to see the Dakar. I recall further up the thread saying pictures can hide a multitude of sins, well these pictures certainly do!
It's not a nice car at all I'm afraid. I'll bullet point things so I'm not here till bed time.

1. Yellow car red roof! :wideyed:
2. Front bumper doesn't fit correctly either side where it meets the bonnet.
3. Drivers side door mirror Base is new and unpainted. ( Why wouldn't you do that?)
4. Large dent above the drivers side headlamp.
5. Yellow paint on passenger floor pan where the front edge of the sill has been painted (badly)
6. Huge crease in the drivers door a foot long surrounded by small dings.
7. Several dings in the passenger door.

That's just what I saw at a glance. I didn't even bother to open the bonnet or the boot

In the cars defence the interior was very tidy, it had 4 excellent Avon tyres and the alloys were mint.
Like @gookah says it ain't a cheap car but if its a very long term investment and a car is right for you then maybe it would be worth it but this certainly isn't a car I would recommend to anyone on here. It's basically been valeted and put up for sale.
And to finish off the guy selling it was an arogant tosser! When I explained I was looking on behalf of someone else he said, "you can have a quick look but I'm closing in a minute" it was 3pm!!

Grumps.
