Well, I've been looking for my next Zed for a couple of months now, albeit with no luck in finding the car I want!

But in doing so I've really had a good look at all the models and specs , prices etc.

The dealers are full of talk of "the next big investment" regardless of what car they are selling, but nothing seems to sell, same "fantastic investment opportunities" have been on sale for last 2 months. I know its said to be the poorest time of the year for car sales, but no sales at all?

Privately it seems cars have to be under £1500 to sell, with many on ebay under £1000. That's great for people who fancy a nice cheap sports car, but useless if you have a well sorted car with no issues and good spec that deserves a good price.

I wonder how it will fare after the new year into the spring, when traditionally its the best time of year to sell a sports car, but actually is also the worst as the market gets flooded with cars?

Meanwhile does anyone has a nice Dakar 2,2 or above for sale!

I think your quote of "below £1500" is a little harsh to be fair.
A nice well sorted 2.2 or 2.8 will fetch between £2000-3000 and the 3.0 more even this time of year.
Do totally agree with you that a dealers are taking the pi55 with pricing. There are two at a dealer just round the corner from me and have been there since he moved in 2 months ago. I wonder why......o_O

Its not reliable of course, but a look at completed ebay auctions show 83 cars sold at under £1500 vs 54 sold over £1500, but most under £2000. Many of those cars probably wern't sold either, just bid up in the hope of a sale. Its no comment on Z3's though, think the above is true for all makes!

Yeah eBay never makes the same money. It's for the buyers market when it comes to cars.

I think its fair to say you need to view I would suspect there's a lot of Zeds out there that have been bought with work needed for a year or two of summer fun then the realisation of money needed to be spent will make selling a good idea and upon viewing are in reality worth very little because of mismanaged routine maintenance or just plain neglect and require deep pockets to make good.

What's needed is that car that's been owned for a number of years, been looked after to a reasonable standard and being sold for a genuine reason, those I suspect will command a higher value and be probably worth the asking price. That said I cant make head or tail of the prices at the moment they seem either rock bottom or unrealistically high, but perhaps upon viewing the prices either way are reasonable?

Got mine off ebay for £1500.--

The most excellent summer, Autumn and winter motoring i have had too.
Have put on 8000 miles since April.

Happy with the spec. Sports seats, M low slung suspension etc.

Has been faultless, bought with just 6 weeks MOT on it, put it through early just in case and it sailed through
with no advisories.

Next April a full service and maybe a visit to the Zed shed before MOT and away we go again.

Best £ 1500 i have ever spent

Bought mine for £1550 in 2014 paid £1000 each for the ship ride to Canada and to my drive in the middle of Canada plus a few £'s for a HT, etc. So far I've put new tires and two light bulbs into it as purchased. Now I've put a new hood on and new seat leather and I'm still around £2000 all in . Can't compare to buying here. JIM

Prices for Z3's in the UK are just unbelievable, I paid € 9,500 for mine over here.
Don't think it's just Zeds Mike. Our used car market is way behind those on the mainland.

Paid £2600 for my 2.8 four years ago. Yes I've spent a bit on it but to me it's worth every penny. I love it more than any car I've ever owned ever ever! :D

Keeping my fingers crossed you find that perfect Dakar for you

I'm with you on that mate, I also love my Z and it has to be the best driving experience I have ever had.

To be honest @Grumpy, I did not actually pay that in cash, I swapped my V6 Merc avantgarde for it that was worth more than the Z.
I could just not bond with this Merc, to many gizmos on it and I just could not be bothered to work out what they all did.
Cant be assed to go through the OBC to find out what my oil level is, just give me a bloody dip stick.

Totally agree @HT and it was a lot faster and better positioned if you had to add any oil. I still don't think I know 1/2 of what the computers in Joan's Ford Fusion are capable of but I love the 385HP and the ride! JIM

Get exactly what your mean mate, that's why I like the old stuff.

Love the comments, looks like I cant go wrong getting back into a Zed! I don't think there will be any problem, just needs to be a 6 of some sort. Seems tho I might have to consider other colours..

Just for your amusement, here my other car, which will be its stablemate. my daily is a well used Astra estate!
