BREXIT Blues

are these the youngsters that are running around staring at their phones chasing imaginary Pokemon and crying because they might not be able to travel across Europe for a fiver?

On a more serious note, my business has seen a significant uplift in exports since Brexit, the weakening pound has made us more competitive. I'm not sure how long it will last, as most of what we sell is mass-produced overseas. I expect we will see price increases if the rate doesn't head back to 1.3 before long though.

Oh, but I'm off on holiday soon, so I'll loose some of it in exchange rates however, we did book and pay for all inclusive so it will have less of an effect on us.

The Brexit decision has been made and we have to live with it, I must say I am rather disappointed with the politicians and the chaos they have caused since. Their actions are partly to blame for the pounds fall, it isn't just Brexit. the UK needed a strong and authoritive governement in place the moment the outcome was announced. We didn't have that and that has caused damage.

@miller1098 On the subject of the turbine, if you have not paid a deposit or down payment, i would go back to the Germans and ask to renegotiate the rate, and then tell them you want it pegged in Sterling.
However, in reality, a £1,000 variation on a £30,000 project is only a 3.3% shift. That is no doubt well within your contingency budget and it could have just as easily have been caused by some other global event, possibly caused by terrorism. What would have happened to the GBP if a member of our Royal family had been assinated for example.
With the benefit of hindsight, maybe it would have been worth buying the £30k of euro's before Brexit, that way your cost would have been fixed. If the project then didn't happen you could have sold the euro's and made a few quid.

Personally, I would have been looking closer at UK manufacturers on a bespoke project such as this though, not so much from a financial aspect but from a communication, support and if necessary, recourse angle. If it doesn't work properly, pursuing them through EuroCourts will be a lot of hassle, even compared to the UK system.

Good luck with the project though, renewables is a subject I've long been interested in, I used it as a study subject when I was studying electronic engineering in the late 80's, long before feed-in tarrifs made it fashionable. I had a then girlfiend type it up on a manual typewriteras I had no access to a PC in those days!
I also sell small scale off grid systems now, although wind and solar based. I hope you run a thread on the installation as I for one will love to see it progress.
I probably would mention the turbine in a thread,as for sourcing in the uk it's just not possible and believe me no one buys more local than I do even if it costs me a little extra. Its not so easy to plan very far in advance this project started 18 months ago and I still haven't got all the approvals I need but have gambled on getting them.i can tell you that the exchange rate was a lot more favourable when we first started costing the whole project about €1.41. Yesterday it was 1.19 it hurts But that's now my problem. We have been an advocate of renewable energy our houses are all ground source and solar before feed in was thought of.we just did it because we believed in it.However the cost of this turbine system is way more than we can finance without some form of return.and you can imagine the red tape that we have to adhere to when we mess with a water course. This is the sort of turbine we are installing ,there is only one other company in the Check republic building them.http://www.ossberger.de/cms/pt/hydro/ossberger-turbine/

I think that any thing that goes wrong in the next few years is going to be blamed on brexit , it will be an excuse for price increases etc , there should be no reason for increases yet as its going to take a long time for us to seperate from europe.

Since many of us were duped at the referendum I've been told that it's best just to get on with it,lol. Its not quite as easy as just saying the words.I went to Ireland for 3 days just after the vote and it cost me £40 more due to the exchange rate, but according to the BREXITERS it's a short term thing and it's a small price to pay for my freedom(I'd always assumed I was free)anyway soon we will be rolling in it.the NHS will be properly funded and all the mosques will be pulled down not forgetting the well paid jobs the unemployed are going to be getting. So we went on holiday to the Alps for a week, surprise suprise it cost us a minimum of £250 extra I didn't add everything up as I was so p***** off.Anyway today we went to put a deposit on a turbine we are ordering from Germany, guess what it's cost us today £1000 more than before the referendum and it's going to cost us a whole lot more.I feel some one has stolen from me,I have a suspicion I know who it is,and they have no guilt and happily make us all poorer because of their racist or nationalistic, parochial views. Were never going to get our money back and really we've made Britain a poorer place in the eyes of the rest of the world. The worse thing is in our local Morrisons today the cashier found it acceptable to make a racist remark to me about a headline in a newspaper I was buying. This doesn't feel like the tolerant, inclusive ,fair ,friendly country I was brought up in.It feels mean, selfish, mobish and racist.I hope over time we will get our country back and put the mob back in the bag and try to educate them.Anyway so far it's cost us £1290..thanks BREXIT :(
I agree with most of that, and you are obviously a rational free thinking dude (assumption) .. but I'm curious to know why you would buy a newspaper with a inflammatory headline in the first place? Not having a go at you, I just can't stand the media for whipping up this kind of intolerance...and if nobody bought it then they couldn't be blamed for having any influence on the nasty stuff that is no doubt incoming when the consumers of said media realise nobody is going home...but the real sickener.. Gideon on the honours list:yuck:

I stand firmly by my BREXIT vote, the United States of Europe was coming at a million miles a minute, one day maybe but not yet. BREXIT will be seen as the right vote at the right time. IMHO :)

Lol,I was with my Mil whom I was allocated shopping duty with after her recent knee replacement. The newspaper was for my Fil who is housebound and voted out.But nice to see your on your toes ;)

We're a little late shearing some of our sheep this year and I haven't shorn a sheep in anger for about12 years and my condition doesn't really lend itself to shearing. It was taking me about 1 min 12 seconds but I wasn't going to keep that pace up all day .check this out :woot: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-36895648

Jeez mate, you got to be fit to do that. It's a skill I like to watch.:)

Tony.

We have to pay £1 to shear a sheep luckily our son does all ours and earns a little extra working for our neibours, but it's hard graft and if you shear 200-250 in a day it's enough.
It's bloody hard work, well done to the lad if he can do that many.

Tony.

Back on topic, most people over here on the main land don't give a flying fig about Brexit, makes no difference to them.
Based on immigration? The UK Governments fault, with all the hand outs.
Why are they all in Calais trying to get to the UK?
I have yet to see one on the street in my town and this is a steel town with high employment.

I think the UK Government just burnt Rome.
They did not seek ways of changing things within Brussels, like the Dutch Government has done.
They just sat there and drank their Port and eat their cheese, just like the Generals during WW1.
