Got an m3 Z coupe few weeks ago... Bought on impulse as so damn pretty.
Then I find out they have big issues with the boot floor rotting.. Does anyone know how to find out if indeed it is and if it is How much is a repair job.. (At a reasonably priced garage) preferably one who knows what they are doing.. Incidentally I live in the Rugby area so Midlands....
Otherwise car is lovely goes like the clappers and I love the absolute unique look of this machine..
Thanks JamesT

Welcome James.

When to say rotting do you mean rust? There are known issues with the sub frame but rust doesn't tend to be one of the common ones. Pictures would help :)

I think the issue you are referring to is the boot floor spot welds failing which on the coupes can be quite a problem. The only way for you to check is to strip the rear interior out and check the entire boot floor which is a pain but necessary to do a full inspection.

There is another coupe owner ( @Ian_C ) on here who will be able to offer you more advice as I think he has had his done to his Z3MC.

Lots of details here, I had mine done twice, first time, just welded up, happened again a year later so replaced the differential hanger with the twin ear BMW replacement and had that welded into the subframe, fixed it.

Long story short, new OEM BMW re-inforced replacement part.

Foolishly last year I just had the repair many other forum users had, had on their cars, the 'L' shaped spot welds, I wish I had scraped for another hour and revealed the full extend of the damage!

Well I've been without the car for over a week, but my Saxo VTR track car is now road legal and in 'testing' for Lydden Hill in 2 weeks so it's not all bad news!

A few snaps, pops and holes!

Hope this helps

Some new spot welds

A new plate

The OEM BMW reinforcement repair (double ear)

Just done a 200m round trip to Boscombe and back, good as new!

Thanks your reply... Not being A technical person its difficult to follow a lot of this.. Bought car on impulse... 108K mile and paid £17200 So wasnt cheap but seemed not too bad.. Came seemingly from a good home and to my eye the condition was very good.
Went to a classic car meet where a fellow Coupe owner said have you had the boot floor looked at.. I said WHATS That.. so he sowed the seed of discontent in me... will take my garage get it on ramp and see what they say.. Perhaps its OK... done my own inspection from the boot ater taking carpet out and seems clean to me... Its garaged and I dont really take out in bad weather as its a weekender.
Perhaps it is OK Regards Just love the look of these cars Which was the reason I bought it JamesT

Hello James, welcome from Truro. I wouldn't worry too much, the problem is well known and if it does need sorting it isn't a difficult job to do for a garage. The price you paid was a good deal for a coupe and you'd get your money back if you put it up for sale today

I would get it checked just for piece of mind, I'm not sure all MOT testers would pick up on this.

You must be thinking of someone else Ian, the boot floor's ok in my coupe. Plenty of info on z3mcoupe.com (and on here and .net too). Relatively straightforward fix if it's caught early.

I was more referring to stripping the boot out to get it inspected tbh. Might have been when you had the respray I saw something you posted but my mind might be playing tricks, I have an image of an Estoril boot stripped down.
