Bo***cks !!!!!

Insurance comp wanted to right off my sons Subaru but we got insurance co to pay us slump sum in settlement and we had the car repaired using second hand parts. On the down side the repaired lent him a car and he crashed that, we had to pay about £500 as only third party cover on loan car

What is all that about? I can't see anything wrong with the rear end. Fix it yourself Malcolm. Maybe Seawards want to sell you a Suzuki.

There is some paint damage to the N/S rear end, so will need respraying, but dont know if there in any damage underneath to the plastic clips / fixings etc, which may need to be addressed and possibly end up with new ( secondhand !) bumper.
But I cant see from the list of parts, that there is structural damage. SO.....monday will be an interesting day when the engineer calls me!!

Ideal solution for me is
Get a settlement offer and the car back.
Strip it all down and check all the parts
Hire van and do the ‘golden triangle drive’ to pick up any bits I need. ( Mansfield - Swindon - Woking )
Put it all back together
Respray

Simples !!=))

Sorry to hear about it. Glad you are both okay. Try to buy your car back if they won't stump up the cash. They should give you the market value for the car if not insured for a pre-agreed value, and then give a scrap value. Typically, scrap value is worth much less so when you buy back, you should have something left over. You could also "sue" the Smart driver for your additional losses - depending on speed: time off, whiplash, car off road etc. Hopefully, this will help fund your additional repairs. Good luck!
Totally agree with this, my Mazda has the dubious reputation of being written off twice now 1st time by an uninsured illegal immigrant Polish person who spoke perfect english until the police arrived (took 6 years to get the money!!) and second time by a yoof who tried to do a u turn as I was next to him! He was done for dangerous driving. Anyway point is, if you love it and it’s never going to be worth a lot, just rebuild it. It’s not rocket science just time consuming.

My bonnet has the hinges, struts, grills and badge attached (but badge needs replacing)

@Jjim .....see you soon :whistle:

Ok, managed to get the repair estimate today......total cost £6125.00 !!!!!!

Looking at that list, the answer is quite simple, they just don't want the job. Obviously not enough in it for them so make it uneconomical.

Makes me wonder if someone wants the car!

@the Nefyn cat
Luckily this is where the Zed lives !!! And where it can be repaired !

Were you tailgated by the M police? Perhaps a militant faction using rubbish cars to make their point? :whistle:

Important message from the list is there are no structural parts to cut out and replace.
Your idea to do a van run to collect the parts you need (maybe far fewer than listed) seems to be sound. You could possibly buy a complete Z3 scrapper for parts.

That is an old photo....since it was taken, the front and rear M Power badges have been removed. Due to the fact its not an M, and is hasnt any power !!!! =))

Feeling a lot more positive

Just. spoke to the engineer this morning ( he phoned as promised !!!!)

Car is coming home.........plus settlement of an ‘In Lieu’ payment agreed.
Just waiting for the garage to call and arrange getting it back to me.

Plus, and the best bit, the car will not be classed as an insurance loss or have any category listed against it.

So now, I will SORN from end of this month, and get it all rebuilt, and sprayed.

Cant wait to get working on it :thumbsup:
