=))

  • Perez had joked females 'are better off in the kitchen' than racing
  • Force India driver admits comments were 'out of place and unacceptable'
  • Wolff says Perez should be forgiven as remarks were 'taken out of context'
  • Sergio Perez has issued an apology following his ill-advised comments about Susie Wolff.

The Mexican was asked whether he'd enjoy driving alongside a female team-mate ahead of this weekend''s British Grand Prix, to which he replied: 'No, they are better off in the kitchen.'

But Perez moved to rectify his comments with a statement on his website on Saturday. 'I feel really ashamed by the way my words have been distorted about the opportunity of racing side by side with a woman,' Perez, who qualified seventh, said.

50 British Grands Prix at Silverstone- 1948

Held two years before the start of the FIA World Championship, the 1948 race at Silverstone is recognised as the first British Grand Prix of the modern era.

The circuit was very much interim and improvised in its design, as it looked every bit the airfield it was raced on. The track was made up of the full lengths of the two longest runways, as well as portions of the perimeter road.

Italian Luigi Villoresi won the race in front of 100,000 spectators, while an 18-year-old Stirling Moss competed in the 500cc event.

Sebastian Vettel moves alongside on the outside at Brooklands, but Gernando Alonso hangs in there. They then go side-by-side through Woodcote, with Vettel managing to get a better drive on the exit.

They head down towards Copse side-by-side, they get so close without touching, before making it stick through Turn One. What. A. Move. Two champions in their prime.

  1. 15:39:
Huge roar, horns blaring as Lewis Hamilton is welcomed onto the podium. The Briton takes his place on the top step, places his cap on the champagne bottle and ruffles his hair before the British national anthem rings out around Silverstone. He then points to the Union Jack above his head and smiles.

Brilliant race all round. Vettel and Alonso battle was epic, as was their radio commentary.

Apparently the marshals are being paid overtime to pick Vettels toys from the tracks...

The trophy banter continues in the news conference as Lewis Hamilton says: "The bottom fell off the trophy on the podium. It's plastic. It must have cost about £10."

He pauses and then says: "Don't write anything bad about that, though."

Valtteri Bottas chips in: "Too late." Hamilton laughs saying: "Yeah, that was off the record."

    1. 16:23:
Max Chilton, who finished a lap down in 16th: "It all started with Raikkonen's incident. I'm lucky to be here. I saw this alloy fly across and it broke the front left brake duct. I went into the pit lane but did not know the rule about not being allowed to go into the pits during a red flag."

    2. GET INVOLVED - #bbcf1
Tone720: ‏Jenson looks pretty happy with just missing out on podium. Good drive considering how bad the McLaren's been this year.

Ian Wearden: It might be the beer I've had, or @LewisHamilton winning, but I'm a wee bit emotional!

Laura Wright: If Jenson hadn't been sooooooo close, I would be really happy with that podium.

Andrew Yee: So close for Jenson Button. Just another lap and could have got 3rd. Would have been great.

It was another tough race for Pastor Maldonado but this time, for a change, he was not at fault. The Lotus driver was the victim as Esteban Gutierrez tried a gung-ho move down the inside at Club. The Sauber driver failed to slow the car down sufficiently, hitting the Lotus and launch it up into the air.

"It is only the third time that a grand prix at Silverstone has been won by someone sixth or lower on the grid. It was wonderful to see the emotion come out of Lewis."
Lewis Hamilton has been staying at his father Anthony's house during the race weekend, getting to and from the circuit via helicopter.

"Having home cooked food made me more relaxed, it was incredible," he says. "You can't imagine the feeling I have in my heart now [from the fans].

"I'm proud to be British, I love the flag. I just wish our national anthem went on longer as the German one went on forever.

"It really needs to be the turning point. But I don't take yesterday lightly. It's not been the perfect weekend.

"I was looking for the gold trophy but they did not have it. They don't make trophies like that anymore!"
