Afternoon all . Complete newbie here to the bmw and the z3 world. Just picked my wee 1.9 up and drive her home. A few quick questions I have if anyone can help me out that would be great.
When I press the asc button on the centre console.... it does nothing? Normal?
Also when I was driving it home it gave me 3 loud beeps from inside the cockpit but no warning lights? Anyone any idea?

Many thanks in advance for help

When you press the ASC button it should illuminate a yellow warning light on the dash to tell you that the ASC(traction control) is switched off. No idea what the beeps were though, sorry.

Tony.

As @t-tony says, this should light up;

The beeps may be an after market alarm/immobiliser?

:welcome: Agree with comments of others - when you switch ignition on, but before start position, your cluster lights should go to test mode and then time out.
They should look a bit like the pic below. Note: airbag light is in bottom right corner but it times out quicker than others(missed it on this pic). Also the cog with the exclamation in centre only applies to auto box.
You may have failed or deliberately removed bulbs.

Video taken on your phone is less likely to miss it, play it and pause the video at the exact moment then use the screen shot to make your picture ;)

could it be you have a problem with it, and someone pulled the bulb out to get it through the mot, because it was on all the time

Did you get a warranty with the car? If so take it back, ASC faults can be a PITA to diagnose. Also looks like your ABS light is missing. ASC and ABS warning lamps go hand in hand if there are any issues.

Yeah could be Phil.
The garage I got it from mot'd it for me
Some of the instrument bulbs have back-up LED's to cover bulb failure, but there are instances where unscrupulous owners/garages have concealed these as well to cover-up faults.
MoT rules were changed a few years ago to include warning light checks for some lights - airbag is one but I can't remember others, but we know a man who does (cue @t-tony ;)).

I have a friend who can plug it in and check it for me before I go back to the garage. How easy are the dials and surround to take off to access the bulbs?
