Another new z3 owner

As long as you bought it at the right money anything is fixable just don't be in a rush.

Tony.

Paid a lot for it seeing it now.

Thought it was good buy looking at pictures.

I just need to find a good one at a reasonable price before they start going up in value fast

Good luck in your search mate.

Tony.

I’m not sure spending 1k or maybe more is worth it when I’ve seen a few for around 2k that look good.

Get a good one from the start I’m not embarrassed by lol

Most zeds need work unless owned by an enthusiast if the chassis is solid its a 2.2 sport so could well be worth saving.

I agree Steve, it sounds as though the majority of the problems are with the outer bodywork. As we know the panels are "bolt-on" so reasonably easy to inter change.

Tony.

Need to ideally get the rear wings. Bumper and cills off to have a proper look

That sounds like a really good idea. Where are you located in the Midlands?

Tony.

It’s the looks that let it down. Mechanically it’s great.

I’m not good at the body side of things. I own a graphics company

You don't need to be a genius to work on these old cars, as I said the panels just bolt on and off and if you need help it is always at hand on here just for the sake of asking.
If you can swap panels and apply some "spit and polish";), you will be able to do as much as many enthusiasts can.

Tony.

Hi and welcome from London, sorry about your predicament but if it's all solid underneath it's not the end of the world. I paid loads for mine and it's only done 50k miles but still got a front wing I'm going to change as it had a bit of rust, they are getting on a bit now. If you look at the progress threads you will see a lot of these mint cars have had a lot of work carried out on them to get them looking so good. The body panels are all pretty easy to change and relatively inexpensive to buy.

It sounds like it's at the more debatable end of worthwhile in financial terms. But unless the chassis is rotten or bent they are all physically saveable.

What you do with it should be guided by what you paid for it and what sort of mileage it is. According to the MOT history it's just over 80k which is reasonably small miles for a Z3. So it's a lot more worthwhile putting the money into it than a 120k plus car.

There's nothing on your list that wouldn't be considered a normal issue. But it is quite a long list. I expect you've spent around £500 so far and have another £1,500 to spend. That's assuming you do the work yourself with mostly second-hand parts. I wouldn't call £2,000 silly money to sort an 80k mile 2.2 Sport. But then I would have wanted to pay eg £2k not £4k for it originally.

However you're going to be very lucky to pick up a decent 2.2 Sport for £2k, especially at this time of year. You need to be spending £3-£4k to get a decent car unless you stumble upon a bargain. And even then, unless it's been enthusiast owned there will always be jobs likely to cost into the £100s.

In case of interest I'm not too far off having a 2.2 Sport in Topaz Blue with Lotus White seats for sale. It's done 99k but I've been all over that car checking it and it's a good'un. It will be sold with nothing other than minor cosmetic type jobs to complete. But as I've done all the huffing and puffing to get it like that it will be around £3.5k.

:welcome: Hi and welcome from me too :coolsteer)

I paid 2k inc delivery from Scotland to Birmingham.

Forget to mention it had the Bonnet catch break as it’s common fault so replaced every part

I work for bmw and mini so everything I buy for it is genuine bmw parts. Not always that expensive.

Seems like it’s worth restoring. Great news.

Be buying them rear wings now then. Is there a guide on here off someone already done it.
I have the bmw repair guide they printed off for me

Hello , the zed is a great car an simplistic in build as said if its mechanically sound and the interior is clean as it looks to be, spending the money may be the best option.
These cars are 15-21 years old now and all have the odd cosmetic blemishes unless you pay really ģood money. Not many car's allow you to unbolt every panel so it can be repaneled with relative ease.
If you have good money in it and its cosmetic it's better the devil you know. You could like one member did and buy another in the same
colour and swap the panels over it may be an answer.
Good luck what ever you choose and :welcome:
