And so it begins again

Had a few hours today, car started a treat and runs as sweets as, to problems arose, exhaust blowing at joint and brake pedal is very long, I also did some body work but finding it a real chore at the minute as we are so busy in the shop I am knackered at the weekend and the last thing I want to do is bloody body work that I have been doing all week, great to see it back on its wheels though :D

You put some exhaust gum stuff in the joint before you put it on? Needs a good run up to temp to get it to set.

There’s light at the end of the tunnel.

I ordered 2l of the paint today as we only have a water base mixing scheme and for personal choice I much prefer solvent base coat

Funnily enough I was going to ask you what you used in a PM today.

Which is better for me to start spraying with? Water or solvent base coat? I figured maybe water so I can wipe it off it goes wrong?

No no no, water is aweful stuff mate, its very difficult to correct it before applying the top coat, solvent base coat goes off a lot faster and any imperfections can be flatted and repainted immediately, some water base products are silicon based and tend to tare when flatted.

Well I was given the water based advice where I had a repair done recently. Fat lot of stuff they know!

Thanks for correcting it :)

and brake peda
If you have bled the brakes correctly this could be a result of the bigger pistons in the rear calipers. I had a longer pedal when I put a BBK on the front of my Z3, still drivable but just felt different. Glad to see it back on its wheels though

Might just be a matter of opinion mate, also water base is quite thick to apply and needs to be done in a heated environment of 23c, it takes and age to dry and leaves behind a very thin coat similar to ink, which means your final prep before painting has to be very precise

I have considered that the master cylinder can't cope but I think its some other problem as the pedal is hitting the stop, I'm not to concerned at the minute, I'll revisit it later in the build

Hopefully it’s something easy, you have replaced the rear lines, maybe it just needs bled through again, did you have the pipes off for a while? There is an option in INPA to run the ABS pump for short bursts to help bleed a dry system.

Yes it was fully drained for a few weeks so could well be the pump, the plan is to bleed the system again and then bleed at the pump with the ignition on, failing that it will have to be done via INPA, thanks for the input pal, its appreciated

I have a pressure bleeder if you need it Sean.

Tony.

Thanks pal, already done with a pressure bleeder though

Did you crack the unions at the ABS pump with pressure on mate?

Tony.

ps. Also worth cracking the unions at the master cylinder. first too.

Not yet pal, thats the next visit, but leaving it for now as I am up to my neck in body work and don't want it on stands again

I get that mate, if it's mobile at least you can move it if you need to. We sometimes get a long stayer in at work and they can be a pain.

Tony.

ps. When you get back to it try clamping all 4 flexible hoses off (assuming you haven't fitted stainless steel ones?) and see how hard and high the pedal is. If you can get someone to keep pressure on the pedal and then you release each clamp in turn and see by how much the pedal drops. That should point to where any air might be lurking in the system mate.

That's interesting Sean What colour did you order?
