Out of interest can you show pics of where welding required.
This is the front of the O/S and will require the first 10-12" replacing including the jacking point.

Is anyone scrapping a shell which you could cut the section out of Sean?
Tony.
That would be great Andy, I was going to fabricate it but I'd prefer to use a cut out section, I'll take a look at the other side and let you know what I need.I could cut a section out of one if it helps
Great idea palIs anyone scrapping a shell which you could cut the section out of Sean?

Yes, this for me is the correct route,as I can deal with rust as its what I do, however the technical issues of an engine swap would destroy mePity about the rust Sean, other than that it looks like an excellent starting point for you to work your magic on. I am so pleased that you decided to buy a 2.8 rather than doing the engine swap. The bodywork issues are far easier to sort, especially with your skills in this area. Looking forward to reading your progress threads.
no worries, I have loads to keep me occupiedNo worries mate, can discuss via PM. Will be a little while -Easter break at earliest
Would have been an interesting challenge doing the engine swap, but why make it difficult for yourself. This way you should get plenty of Zed'ing time, when we eventually see the sun.Yes, this for me is the correct route,as I can deal with rust as its what I do, however the technical issues of an engine swap would destroy me![]()
You can use the jacking points but as thats where I am working and I needed the stands out of the way, my concern was that the jacking points would not support the carIn the picture I can see the axle stand, but can’t work out what part of the chassis is sitting on it?
When I finally get round to inspecting the sills on mine, ( and please don’t let them look like the picture ), I am assuming you can’t use the jacking points for the axle stands, so just trying to find the best location to support the car.
Already forgot about it pal, other then I have to sell itI bet you can't sleep with all the excitement and ideas going around in your head. I'd love to be doing one like that up. It's a decent jump from 2.0 to 2.8, you won't be thinking about the old one soon.
As soon as I took a look at this Z I expected that the inner sills would need work as the outer sills where literally held together by the under seal, the O/S is not as bad as I expected so I'm hopeful about the N/SLooks like a great project Sean. Can’t wait to see where it goes
Just about to start to do the inner and outer sills on my Blue 2.8. Hoping they aren’t too bad, but expecting some welding work.
