Amber Brake Light Issue

I purchased a 2001 Z3 2.5i Roadster a couple of months ago. It has been a project car for me...I put a new top on the car, bought new seats, made brackets for the seats, installed the seats, and finally had the car painted. Now it's time to fix a couple of other issues. For this thread I need help on the Amber Brake light issue I'm having. Since I purchased the car this light has been on. The previous owner told me he had new pads/calipers installed on the car and the light has been on since then. I don't know anything else other than the brake calipers are blue and the pads/calipers do look new. I thought this was a pad sensor issue...I removed both sensors and spliced the wires and the amber brake light is still on. I found a thread on resetting the light by opening the door and turning the key to the on position and waiting. Did that. Did that with my foot on the brake. The light is still on. BTW, I checked the fluid level and it is OK. Ideas on what to do next?

Hi @2001Z3Roadster, welcome to the forum, although you have spliced, the wires the fault may lie a little further up the cable at the connector point, I would undue bothe sensor cables and short out the pins in the connectors to see if this makes a difference.

I actually went a step further...I spliced the wired above the connector (I am saving the upper half of the connectors and the sensors in case I would ever want to put sensors back on I can reconnect them). The light is still on. Does the light really reset by just turning the ignition on with the door open?

The light does reset itself but not sure if it requires the door to be open, when I have had this on my car the light just goes out after a few cycles of the ignition.

Suggest you get a scanning tool and read the code. That way you'll have a better idea of where the problem is, rather than shooting into the dark with fixes.

Any suggestions on where I can buy a scanning tool? Cost? I also have a light for the airbag that is constantly on...that is my next task.
