Airbag light reset tool, anyone?

These seem to do most things ...albeit for the novice mechanic :)

The yellow one is a B800 and is the airbag reset one. Thats about all is does

But they can’t be too bad as currently out on loan to another forum member =))

Too simple really, also removes brake fluid change indicator. Receipts to support are vital to cars history.

ktnez99 you definitely need one as although you may not be able to do the work yourself it will tell you if something needs attention. Faults can come up just by doing regular maintenance if you accidentally disturb something and by accepting and cancelling the fault your in a better position to decide if the fault comes back weather you want to keep driving untill you can get it fixed. These readers are cheap on ebay and come with instructions, it puts you in a better position knowing the fault when dealing with the repairers. Once you've used it a couple of times you'll see it's no differant/harder than using a mobile phone. Buy one and we'll help you to get to know how to use it, you don't need all singing all dancing one but you'll need one that is capable of reading and erasing faults. I bought one for my Z3 2.8 and it went every where the car went, cost me £14 off the internet, best tool I ever bought at the time. Have all singing all dancing one now but that's another story. Get to @gookah (Pete) if you can he's very knowledgeable where your Z is concerned. Sorry for I'm a bit far away but will help if no one nearer can.

Roy;)

Cheers, Roy. I've ordered one and I'm off to see @gookah in a moment or two. Thanks for your advice.

You'll be in good hands,@gookah Pete and his son Dave will sort you out, wouldn't think there's much they don't know about the Z3s and no doubt the Z4, they've done all manner of upgrades and repairs to theirs.( two petrol heads together even though they fight a lot. =))=))=)).) Mind you don't get something stuck on your Z before you leave.

Hi, I had a problem on my 2000 2L the fault was in my case the "clockspring" unit behind the steering wheel. However the airbag light didn't go out and the fault was that the control module had reached it's maximum number of errors and locked. I had to send the unit off to be unlocked. The company I used was Crashdata Liverpool. They gave me a phenomenal service, I posted it on a Wednesday, they received it, repaired it and on the Friday posted it back to me, all for £30 including return postage. All has been well since. Most companies I contacted couldn't handle our older units. Hope you sort your problems quickly. Chris

Hi and thanks. @gookah and his assistant Dave have sorted out the airbag warning light and shown me how to use the tool as well as what to do if the light comes back on. Great to meet them and Jo. This forum is amazing! I'm genuinely amazed just how friendly and helpful everyone is. Thanks Pete, Dave and Jo.

no problem (ps. Jemma not Jo)
It was the connector under the drivers seat, had to unplug and redo the connection before it would reset, as it kept coming straight back on.
The passenger seat needs a new up/down motor
I took that seat out, removed the motor altogether, and fed a direct live and negative to it and it would work intermittently with a tap or by putting an allen key and turning by hand, but it just locks up in each direction. could not get it to work reliably. Sometimes it would run for 20 seconds then just lock up. It didn't sound too good either. One for a Spurs fan replacement spare part..

Then put it up on axle stands and ran the rear wheels off the ground
No play in either bearing, no rumble from them, just the normal brake pad rubbing noise.

One thing I did notice is that rotating either wheel could be done without the other one turning, yet it is an LSD.
Runs with some irregular knocking, and at the same time the diff jumps about in the bush. then on a test drive the noise is really bad and is coming from the centre of the car
I wonder if driving it after an incorrect length one was fitted, has caused an issue inside the diff itself. Or if it has been done when the driveshaft was changed maybe unsympathetically,
Also the asc when switched on and off no longer lights up, and there is no light that comes on with the ignition either....!

The mechanic said he has has changed and refurbished both driveshafts. I will let the photo's do the talking:

Nice new clips..... not!

Drivers side:

So.... both sides?
and refurbished?

hmmm

Oh and also G8JKA noticed.
After all wheels have been refurbished, and new 'rotational' tyres fitted,
With both front wheels, the tyres are on wrong way around .Both wheels need swapping over (ran out of time)
Rear wheels, The passenger tyre is rotating in the correct direction, but the drivers tyre is rotating backwards, That one needs changing on the rim.

Damn, I forgot to stick the badge on =))

Well done the son and father team, now when can I bring mine.=))=))=))

The only thing yours needs is a nice ///M badge. Oh and a huge spoiler

Thanks Pete and Dave for sorting the Airbag light and nailing down the noise to the Diff. LSD will be expensive. Did you drive it?

Tony.

They took it out, yes, Tony. And it was great to have them look with expert eyes at my car. This is an amazing forum.

@gookah drove it I was in the passenger seat. Definitely a noise from the diff, dead centre of the car.

Got the feeling I read somewhere that these can have a Torsen diff, not quite the same as a "normal" clutch-pack type. Since I've never had one to bits I've never bothered looking further into them, but they may seem to act strangely.
