Advice please

working on it, but then i wouldnt be the only one:nailbiting: but then i would have a couple of prototypes lying around:whistle:

Hi Grumpy
Great Pic of the bits on the door, thanks for doing that, its raing cats and dogs down here in Somerset and the wind is very strong.
Don't think that the German set includes the door bits so will have a phone call to your one in the morning as still no reply to my email and I want the door bits as well.
I will keep you posted, and also look for one with a speedo surround

i want one like this
walnut burr 3.webp

No problem Geoff. More than welcome.

Walnut and beige upholstery is a great combo!
Makes me think to a chocolate ice cream with caramel topping in a sunny hot day...of Summer!

I fitted an alloy surround to my clocks earlier this year. Bad move, and if the surround is as glossy as it looks you may regret fitting it. You will get sun reflecting of it into your eyes in early morning and late evening when the sun is low. It blinds you!

Tony.

thanks for that tony, umm maybe a satin finish then, i had been working on full deep gloss the same as the other wood but now thinking yeh good point maybe a satin.

I really do think gloss would be a mistake. I like the wood effect though.

Tony.

Satin finished has a sheen but no reflection.

Tony.

Hi Grumpy
The Walnut Dash Company are sending me three samples to choose from and said that they will talk on price discount when I place order. So THANKS for info & Pics.
Cant find any kits that include trim round speedo, think that front panel and other bits would have to be removed and don't want to do that. I did all that when I put a walnut dash on my red TR4 with black interior

Pleased your getting sorted Geoff. I don't think there is a kit available with the speedo trim included. @littlefeller is looking at making one I think. When it comes to fitting clean everything well with alcohol wipes, leave to dry then I used a hair dryer to heat the sections on while rubbing them on with a soft cloth. Didn't take long at all.

Thanks for the application info, my son who is a classic Beetle fan he has a 1960 1 owner, back to metal re spray, new replacement running boards etc. new engine from America 2.3 twin carbs plus other engine mods Porsche wheels, lowered suspension etc. etc. etc. 0 to 60 in 4. something seconds recorded at Santa Pod, sorry rambling, said the very same thing.
I will let you know how I get on.

Sure that will give you an idea but then don't forget that outer lens will add more reflection. My alloy one seemed worse once it was fitted behind the plastic outer lens. I tried what you suggest but couldn't really get it in the right position. Trial and error, mine cost me some 2nd hand clocks from Andy (SFIAC). I really wanted the alloy surround as I fitted one in my old Eunos and it was great so I was dertermined to fit one and ended up wishing I hadn't bothered, good luck, cos I know how you're wanting to do it! :)

Tony.

@Geoff Crispin just an idea. Get a surround of off spurs fan in a coupe then get it hydro dipped. You can make it yours then. I did this to some wing mirrors and spare side gills.

Hi Grumpy & Littlefeller
I have purchased the set with optional extra bits in the new lighter Burr Walnut.
American suppliers do different door items ie; wide band across top of panel and on top of arm rest, thin band round perimeter of speedo area and a panel across glove box.
Another question:
The tail pipe on my z is black oval, but cant seem to find a chrome or S/S tip to cover oval end, will I have to buy a S/S end section ? Any thought or reccomendations
