As suggested Ratty's story with me is not over yet. Having failed its retest only on emissions, and with the red one, 'Poppy', taking all my attention, Ratty has been languishing under cover for a couple of months. No one has bought it for £600, although a couple of young lads did come round for a look. Anyway, Ray and I have decided to see if we can find a second hand genuine OEM BMW catalytic converter from a scrap Series 3 or something that we can weld in place (no, which Ray can weld in place) into a spare Z3 exhaust we have kicking around. If that got it through the MOT, then theres a much better chance of someone buying it, even if just for a year or two's fun. Or for sbout £700 it could have four replacement 'wings', bonnet and GRP sills for a longer term future.
We took Ratty (the Cosmos black one) out and gave it a clean and ran it for a bit the other day. Runs like a dream.
The Bluebird Marine Jetstar 520 (designed by Donald Campbell) had a BMW engine with a carburettor powering the waterjet drive, hence the logo on the stern. That's not functional at the moment either! I think Ray's eying up the engine out of Ratty for the speedboat, minus the fuel injection etc, but I'd rather get the car through the MOT and move it on.
