Fair comment. I was hoping for some, but nothing.

Oh dear, and they cancelled the last day of the Xmas market in Lincoln

More of the CYA syndrome Sean. Lots of people complaining on the teatime local news.

Tony.

Much noise about nothing. 4-5" of snow in total. Roads were poor but passable at 10 this morning. By 3pm main roads were clear. I drove up to Leicester and back at 7pm tonight. Side roads are compacted snow. Country roads pretty much clear with slush in the middle of the lanes and motorways completely clear.
As long as they keep salting they should be ok in the morning. Going to be Land Rover only to get to the main roads though.
Tomorrow night will be a completely different story. At -12C even salted roads are going to freeze at around -6C.

I've never driven on snow/ice before so the trip to work tomorrow morning should be fun!

Luckily it's the Polo and not the zed that I'll be going in. =))

The land of Clog has come to a standstill today, at the moment 1500 kilometers of traffic jams in a country the size of a postage stamp. No trains or buses running, airports shut down, schools closed today.

Just bloody freezing here Mike.

Sounds as if a lot of Europe has had the snow and grinding to a halt. Who says we are the only ones not prepared for snow.

I was in Oslo once and it snowed really well overnight. Snow ploughs had been out and roads pretty clear only trouble we ad to dig the car out where the snow ploughs had buried it with the contents of the road. Still made it to work eventually.

Woke up one morning over here to go to work and the snow ploughs had created a wall of snow at the end of my drive.
I had to dig a car sized gap to get the car out onto the road.

They have said on the news over here that there are 900 snow ploughs working throughout the country today.

They did that years ago wher I live, leaving a pile of snow about 3' deep and 12' wide in the middle of the dual carriage way where I had to turn right into my drive, I asked the driver to make a way through where upon he sarcastically replied "We don't do special favours for anyone" I had to dig through this lot by hand.

But how did the 900 snow plough drivers get to work?

The reason being, from tomorrow and for the rest of the week, it will just be raining and turn the roads into one slushy, salty mess.
What a waste of money and resources just for one day.

Makes you think doesn't it?

There was a bit on the local news tonight about road salt, they reckon it loses it's effectiveness below 10c :wideyed:.......so why bother putting it on the roads when water starts to freeze at 4c ?

Just have to laugh, mother nature taking the Michael .....
After all the panic today and nothing else on the news, just looked out the front door.
My footsteps in the snow are now just pools of slush and the snow is sliding off the cars.

Global warming mate, they said it would happen ...................
