300,000 British BMW recall, problem engine cutout whilst being driven, manufactured between 2007-2011 including Z4 variants. This means some of you may be driving around in a Z4 which they believe may have this fault, but not to worry cos they'll let you know in the next three weeks when and where you can get your BMW checked out.

RHA,Roy.

Some further details today.

The failure is due to the cable from the battery to the fuse box being degraded by heat. I presume then it simply shorts to ground and so takes all electric supply with it.

I can't say that I've heard of any instances of this happening.

Only because this was on watchdog this week complete with a Z4 up in flames...

Honda have done about 3 recalls on our 52 plate CRV over the years regardless of age. BMW need a watchdog episode before they do anything. Must be taking lessons from Apple..

Quite often for many car manufacturers recall work gets done when cars are in for other work and you’re not aware it’s been done. As lots of older cars don’t go near the dealer network then that’s not going to work.
Others issue recalls explicitly so you see all of them.
Going to be interesting see lots of sheds cluttering up dealer forecourts.

Now confused:confused: - rang the helpline number the other night and sat in the expected queue - message was also given that you could email customer.service as another option. So drafted an email enquiry while I was waiting - pressed send on email but sod's law just as I was hanging-up phone they answered. Went through vehicle details and was assured mine (3 series) was not on recall list which had been updated that day. Ok thank you very much - bye bye.
Today got a reply to my email advising that my vehicle is on recall list and to contact local BMW centre, to arrange free repair which should only take a few hours. Rang local BMW centre who said they have a rather long list and will get back to me to arrange date.:whistle:

Agh! What you have just encountered is what we’re really good at here in the UK and is commonly known as customer service =))

So in the meantime no one especially BMW is telling you not to drive it :bag: so if your gonna use your BM might be a good idea to prepare just in case, as to what you do is entirely how you think you would act if it does somehow happen to you. I personally would add a battery powered flashing amber light especially if using at night, try not to use the outside lane on the motorway, sounds a bit extreme maybe but if you drive a vehicle with suspected fault (and that’s all it is suspected) then it will be on your mind, makes sense to me to be prepared, getting caught in the fast lane is really scary especially if you’ve got no way of warning the fast drivers approaching, bad enough when your trying to limp it over to the hard shoulder with hazards working. Food for thought. Just IMO though..

RHA,Roy.

BMW not in the fast lane? How does that work, then?
The driver is on the phone!

Mind you, I say that, but I've noticed a new trend of people who just park themselves in the 'fast lane' doing 60 or so... because they are on their handsfree and their brain has turned off another notch.

Spoke to my local BMW dealership today to book my Z in for the recall. They checked all my car details then told me there is no recall for my car ?? I said there must be as it is listed as a model being recalled. They then said I should contact BMW UK to discuss further. I then contacted them who again looked into all my car details, they then stated my car is not on the recall list and either are any E85 models ?? Again can’t understand why it’s been advertised all over the press and tv.

Has anyone else experienced this, or has anyone taken their car into BMW??

Cheers

Not quite the same as yours but there is some confusion within BMW records set-up. I had an email response from BMW UK stating my 3 series was on the B+ cable recall and to contact my local dealer. Local dealer said it was not on list but agreed to look further when told about email. After a number of confusing phone calls they checked warranty records and discovered it had been on list but the job had actually been done in August last year (just before I bought it).
When I asked about the other potential fault on air con was told it was not on list.

For peace of mind suggest you email customer.information@bmw.co.uk and quote your full VIN.

I know it’s crazy all over the press saying Z4’s and now don’t know.

Our E89 went in on Thursday due to the recall. Dealership was good as they took the car in and then we were taken into Peterborough. When it was finished they then collected us and took us back to collect the car. Richard said that it is only E89's that have been recalled.

Thanks I was told E84 and others but not E85 wish the TV and press would get their facts straight. So they don’t worry people.
