All too much for Jimmy. He's worked like a bl**dy trojan through his summer holidays. Z3s, his Nana and Grandad's garden and now his Uncle John's flat.

He soaks up all the learning and I told him today he should never be short of a job.

For pity sake! You couldn't make this up. I bit into an onion bhaji and a viciously hard piece of onion embedded itself in my palate. And caused it to swell immediately.

I didn't fancy 4 hours in A&E with the Saturday night dross so me and Jimmy did our own procedure.

It was awful trying to keep my mouth open, not breathe on the makeup mirror inserted into my mouth and taking up most of it without gagging, Jimmy shining the iPhone torch in and me probing with a tooth pick. It had caused a cut and a pocket under the palate. It was only a few fragments but that's what was causing it and left there it could have caused a nasty infection.

Absolutely unbelievable.

Final problems sorted out and I'm going to try and book the MOT for Thursday!

The SRS problems were resolved with a 2nd replacement module. I must have fried the first replacement one somehow. Unlike the 1st replacement it apparently didn't need any coding. Well the light went out, the errors went. Strictly speaking I should compare the 2 config dumps with NCS Dummy in case something important has not been carried over. I will do that.

I had a rear wheel sensor error. Naturally the old one snapped off trying to remove it. So it took me an hour drilling out the old one. And in with a 3rd party item. Not Delphi this time as even Delphi is too expensive on the rear. It was an unbranded one for £30. The seller on ebay had sold bucket loads with perfect feedback. It's working currently, we'll see how it goes.

The real headache was the misfire. But after several hours I solved it and that's recorded here.

https://zroadster.org/threads/clearing-adaptations-with-inpa-after-m54-engine-swap.19500/

Then I actually got to drive it! It ran well. Phew! There's a couple of subtle noises from the engine bay now I can hear beyond the lumpiness of the misfire. One a little worryingly appears to be coming from the Vanos. But I might be mistaken. There were no noises when the engine was in the donor car so I'm hoping nothing serious.

Tomorrow night we're going to do a few final bits and bobs (refit some interior trim, check gearbox oil level, centre the steering wheel, tape the crack in the rear screen).

Then hopefully in for that MOT Thursday :)

MOT next Wednesday. They seem to be unusually busy.

In fairness they also need to re-fit the exhaust that I couldn't get right. And sort out the tracking for me.

Now that to me sounds like the sort of time I'll need to finish off breaking the donor car. That will free up precious space on my Parents' drive and relieve us and the neighbours of the increasing eyesore.

Any rumours it creates space for me to buy another Z3 are of course completely false ;) Seriously I really do have to move on the next 2 project 2.2s to free funds up.

I'll start new threads for them where appropriate but in summary:
  • Willy, Topaz Blue 2.2 Sport - Gorgeous car but has electrical issues. When this car is finished I will be tempted to keep it as it's the nicest of any of my Z3s. I'd have to sell the Titan Silver 2.2 to do that (ie the car from this thread). I don't want to do that as it means so much to me personally as it was the car I was rebuilding for my mate with cancer who went down hill unexpectedly and died a few months ago
  • Kodak, Topaz Blue 2.2 Sport - Needs new camshaft sensors (OEM bargains from ebay in hand). Not a bad car but has a couple of rough edges. Have to decide how much tidying up to do on this one as I risk getting sucked into it otherwise and I don't have the time. The intention is to turn it round quickly for a budget price and leave that work to the next owner
  • Jgeffie - Boston Green 1.9 pre-facelift. Nice solid, well maintained car. But paintwork was destroyed being kept under an outdoor cover. This is going to be my guinea pig car for a full, or at least substantial respray. I enjoyed doing an engine bay in rattle can and fancy a go with my compressor and a decent gun. I've been looking at 'Gunman' s videos on Youtube. Worth a look! This was going to be the car for my other half's son. But that didn't work out so I'll be selling that one in due course too.
And I also need to remember I have other stuff that needs my time! The engine replacement project has sucked up all my spare time for months and the DIY etc is stacked up now!

Thank you. Because that is definitely the aim here.

It's a nice car and was a whisker away from being broken. It came from a breaker. Some breakers occasionally get a car in and decide to spin it quickly if it's saleable enough. But that's a rarity.

If someone else had bought it they could have still broken it, as I could, and made decent money from it. If I sold this car tomorrow I wouldn't make a penny now! But that brings me back to where I started and doing it for the love of the car.

Just gutted he never lived to enjoy it. But I'm hoping his widow will want to see it and go for a spin up to the cemetery in it. That would be nice.
