Please can you help
How can I confirm if my car is fitted with the m sport suspension S704 option pack. Is there some easy check I can do on the car
The car is Z3 2.2 2001
Thank you

You down load your build spec, it will be in there. There are various VIN decoders on the internet that can give you your build spec.

If you have the sport suspension and want to change your shocks/struts, you'll fine the sport spec ones crazy expensive if you can find them at all. Most people fit standard shocks/struts as they are cheaper and don't seem to cause any problems.

Having S704 listed as a fitted option on the VIN is unfortunately no guarantee that it is still fitted in full or part on your car. It may have been swapped out. The sport suspension is 15mm lower than standard, but can be difficult to measure accurately, plus you really need a standard car to compare with.
So, the following S704 (2002) information may help if you can read any of the part numbers:-
Front springs p/n 31331092662
Front shocks p/n 31316753261/2 (left and right)
Rear springs p/n 33531095087
Rear shocks p/n 33526753263 (left and right the same)
As @NZ00Z3 advises, soucing these is both difficult and expensive.

Thank you for your help
Just one last question, is the diameter of the front anti roll bar different for the m sport suspension

FAO peewee
One of the front springs had the part number label, part number ended in 655, which is not the Msport spring however the front spring part numbers are not listed anywhere, would you be able to confirm this is the standard spring part number

Number ending in 655 is certainly consistent with a genuine BMW spring number. Whether it's a sport spring (from 2001) or not I can't really confirm. I believe 2.2 and 3.0 litre cars (6 cyl) had identical suspension components although there were variations according to manual/automatic/aircon etc which affected the weight and spring selection. The numbers I gave earlier are from my 2002 3.0 litre. Maybe others on here will be able to advise.
Your full part number is 31331092655. BMW should be able to eliminate the guesswork and confirm what it is for you though

It’s strange but I looked in 2 places for the spring part numbers Real OEM and BMW Synter online parts, neither of them list the Frt spring part numbers ( as far as I can see)
Thanks for your help

I've looked up paperwork I have here and would suggest that your spring 31331092655 is standard and not sport. Still best to get BMW to confirm that for you though. Don't rely on aftermarket spring suppliers cross referencing/compatibilty information as that is often wrong.

Thanks again for your help, I have also checked the anti roll bar diameters with a vernier and they align with the diameters you gave me for the standard set up and with the spring part number info ( I will confirm with BMW) it’s almost certainly not fitted with the M sport option pack
