What a finally, all decided on the last 2 corners of the last stage of the last rally of the season by the last driver to run through the stage. I've watched the WRC for the 6 years and the fact that Elfyn Evans has finished 2nd 5 times, one year being beaten by 1point makes all the more deserving for him to be champion this year.
The skill level of the drivers and co-drivers is unbelievable, the speeds they get to on some the roughest of roads imaginable and the complete faith the drivers have in the pace notes the co-drivers read out is breath taking.
Not only that they have to be good at mechanical fixing and looking after their cars, sorting tyres out (1.5 minutes to change a puncture mid stage) etc.
I rate the skill level of rally crews higher than F1 drivers with all there mechanical aids, pit crews etc. Once these guys are on a stage they are on their own, no discussion with the pits with what mode to use etc.
Sympathy for Solberg, but as Ogier said "To finish first, first you have to finish!!"
Be interesting to see what next season brings with Rally 1 cars being banned, maybe more new teams coming in.
