Rough idle . . .

1999 2.0 Z3 6cyl - rough idle on start up, settles when warm.

Plugged in obd reader and it’s saying P0340 camshaft position sensor A circuit Bank 1 or single sensor and P0173 fuel trim bank 2 ???

Friend says the P0340 is a result of the issue and not the issue, says it’s likely a split hose somewhere ???

I’m afraid you have been given poor advice. If the P0340 code is currently active (not historic) then you definitely have a camshaft position sensor and/or wiring issue that needs to be addressed. You may well also have split hose somewhere but this will not trigger the P0340 code. Because split hoses are so common on 20+ yr old vehicles this is the #1 go-to repair recommendation for the armchair mechanic.

I agree, the code is new, I’ll replace at the weekend thank you, also check hoses for any issues

End result was a beautifully purring 27 year old Z3, faulty camshaft sensor it was ! Intake side . . .
