I've been cycling since 2015, after years away from it. I started again to help "chaperone'' some college students on a ride from the Gulf of Mexico to the Texas-New Mexico border. I have done a "birthday ride" every year riding my age in miles, doing 80 miles this year. 3 years ago I did a ride from Texas to Colorado, but had a crash just short of Kansas that cracked my shin, bruised my shoulder and chest, and removed skin and blood from my legs and hands. Concrete and exposed skin don't do well together. With the heat at the moment, my rides start at the crack of dawn and stop at 20-30 miles, before it gets too hot.
