Hi. My husband had to replace the grommet round the radio aerial on our 2001 Z3 1.9 today. and naturally had to unwire and rewire the aerial during the process. He now needs to in input the radio code number again The handbook says to use the station buttons 1-6 to input the 4 digit code number. For example if the first digit was a 3, then press station key 3 and so on. However this is proving difficult as one of the numbers for our code is a 9. Anyone knows how we can input a 9 at all as the radio numbers only go up to 6. Thanks.

Do you not just tab the same key until it reaches 9. Like No1 key, code is 5, tab it 5 times.
I've disconnected my aerial for the same reason but never needed to recode, just plug aerial back together, it's not been disconnected from power.

Hi. That is what we are wondering. Although our handbook says use the station numbers 1-6 to tap in the 4 digit code (we are in the UK so have one digit less for the radio code than the USA). It goes on to say that if the first number is a 4, tap radio station 4, then if the next one is 2, tap radio staton 2 etc. But on a Ford Escort XR3i we used to own the number was put in as you say by tapping radio station number 1 the perquisite amount of times. So we will try that.
What radio is it?
When I undid my aerial to replace the grommet (and the aerial) my radio died too and needed the code again. It's the earth. Some after market radio installers fit an earth strap near the radio but from the factory (if I'm not mistaken) the radio is earthed with that brown wire at the aerial bracket.
My understanding is that it's a 4 digit code. Use the first 4 buttons. So, for a number like 6789 you'd press button 1 repeatedly till it shows 6. Then press button 2 repeatedly till it shows 7. Then button 3 repeatedly till it shows 8 etc

It's the factory fitted radio. There were three wires altogether. I didn't actually see any of them but would assume one of them was an earthing wire.
