Zed no2 came with 100W headlight bulbs, both earth flag terminals were melted into the lamp housing, which had fused to the bulbs.
I’ve now discovered the +ve wire has overheated and fused to the insulation

luckily I have the cover off so I can replace the wire inside the headlamp.

You can get away with 100W bulbs in older cars pre-canbus, probably, but please don’t do it in modern stuff. Fit standard wattage higher output bulbs, won’t be much price difference, and at least things won’t melt/go on fire.

What make you think that?

Would you hang 2 tons on a 1 ton shackle? Replacing a 50W bulb with a 100W bulb is the electrical equivalent.

Presumably that is 55/100w?
If halogen, they will produce a LOT of heat at 100w and draw nearly 9 amps @ 12v.

As said above 100w are illegal for road use in the UK.

I didn't think there was a maximum limit for main beam, dip beam yes. Presumably because no-one is around when on main beam . . . in theory!
