This car so far has been the most testing and difficult. On day one most bolts were cut off and to make things more fun all 4 M6 cap heads on the beam plates were locked solid. So on the first day we had a solid 4 hours just tackling them just to get the subframe out, in the end we had to cut the plate.

so with the limited photos I did take she at least looks better now.

The famous cap heads.

One thing we noticed was the exhaust setup, the headers have been taken from a 2.8, along with Cats and the back box welded on. Who ever owned it previously wanted the cats removed from the headers. I run mine like this on my track car for better flow.

Another first was being able to push out a beam core by hand these were seriously toast.

that was day one, today I was flying solo in this crippling heat and managed to get the rear back together and looking fresh. Again one of the shaft splines refused to go in so that took me hours to sort.

All torqued up ready to be installed. Just waiting on a couple of bits to arrive and I’ll continue.

Mate, you need a medal for working in this heat. I was at least working outside where there was a tiny bit of a breeze.

Tony.

Well, someone has to have the worst one, even before this, there was still a bad good one 😬😬😬

Great effort considering all the challenges Lee

Gives me hope, I was crying in my cornflakes for days after I went under mine :bag:

Have a google for ‘Mx5 rust’ and you’ll feel better straight away =))

Hi Lee,
I still have a couple of sets of replacement beam plate bolts if you need them. Same as you used on Bazzas’ car

Cheer's Mazza I'll take them if you don't plan to use them. I'm using normal M8 bolts going forward.

I’ll stick them in the post tomorrow.

I don’t intend changing mine again=))

No need to use Allen bolts anyway, I could never understand why they did.

Saturday was probably the toughest Saturday we've done for a while... 👀
Couldn't agree more, I don't think we've done that many hours removing a subframe since the beginning.

We finally got there with this Zed. She was a very testing car. I saved bulk of the work till the weekend so we did one long day putting everything back together.

This was how we started.

Within 45mins the subframe was in a torqued up. Sporting some shinny new bits

it would be rude not to paint up the brakes. Just finishes off the clean look.

she’s also had new BMW brake lines fitted, the original lines fell apart in my hands on disassembly along with braided lines all round.

We also cleaned up the front brakes.

By around 4pm it was test drive time. Nothing to report other than rear spring pads need to be thicker she also goes really well and holds the corners as she should.

Another Zed lives on!
