1.9 M44 EWS 3D Issues

Reckon your onto sorting this with a resync EWS/DME, have seen this before, fingers crossed this sorts it.
Thanks @colb .... I've decided to get a Foxwell NT510 Elite scanner as I know it does DME-EWS Alignment as well as a bunch of other things... and other forums.... fora ?.... reckon it's the scanner of choice for beemers (guess if you haven't got INPA) or don't want to lag a laptop around.

ok so today I took receipt of my new Foxwell NT510 Elite.... and like an excited child connected everything up...to say it's not intuitive is an understatement !...

I hunted through the sections and found the one for control modules.. .and got an EWS section.. "great! I thought, lets getting cracking

get to the DME adjustment page and....

erm...... excuse me?.... tried again... same result....... much digging later, program means.... you can't do it from this page........

Tried other sections and got to Car Immobilisation System.....ok we're here now

Select option 2 , key position 2..... off we go and.......

"communication problem.... check connection, check ignition, Check battery"

Comms all good, nice and tight... key in position 2, and battery about 12.8v....... try again

Select option 2 , key position 2..... off we go and.......

"communication problem.... check connection, check ignition, Check battery"

so.... yes I know I shouldn't, checked Google.... asked me what pins I have connected on my adaptor

So I have pins 15, 17, 19 20.... with 17 bridged to 20......

apparently that's a problem as writing to the DME is on pin 7

Who knew adaptor cables are not all the same... evidently there's post 2001 and pre 2001. Guess what I have.

However the system scan did say there were no faults with the DME and no faults with the EWS ! so out of that massive disppointment i'll take that as a small win

I've ordered a cheapy pre 2001 adaptor cable that has pin 7 connected. I've gone past crying now, to laughter

ok do here we go.... managed to drill down with the Foxwell NT510... it categorically states there is absolutely nothing wrong with the DME or the EWS. All checks pass. HOWEVER..... when I tried to do a DME-EWS Alignment, on one page I got Communications Fault regardless of what adaptor cable I used and a battery at a healthy 13.6v

Another menu I got "EWS matching not possible for this vehicle with this program".....

Then I did a live test on the EWS and found something interesting

So, the key transponder is all good, releases the Starter Motor and allows it to crank.

Now then...........current key number is INVALID. Google suggests that my car does not actually have a rolling code.....but has an Individual Serial Number (ISN)... and THAT has gotten corrupted so the DME will never read it. How true that is I don't know...and that using the 20 pin connector with a scanner will not fix it

it's looking more like I'll either have to get INPA, to re write the DME code to the Immobiliser, or send the key and EWS off to get re coded....

ok so here we are at August and I'm no further to solving the no start issue. Foxwell NT510 cannot perform an alignment. reading further plus more and more testing, suggests modifying the adaptor cable to bridge Pins 7 & 8 will make absolutely no difference as EWS 3D communicates via the DME (ECU). The only crumb of hope was yet another modification on bridging pin 16 (battery) to pin 1. This keeps the scanner "alive" during the alignment process allegedly, though reading other places if you connect 12v to pin 1 you might blow your scanner ! so I'm at a complete loss now as if EWS doesn't allow writing through an adaptor cable, then neither will INPA ?
