Some milestones coming up just looking at the headline stats.
Currently 219k messages posted so a quarter of a million isn't far away.
3915 members - 4 thousand on its way shortly!

We'll need a little cyber party to celebrate!

I'd be suprised if it's that many Ian. I know a lot do look in but never post which will hide any activity to us so makes the numbers look less. Then of course you have your ocassional users like you, me, Tony, Andy, Ant, etc etc etc

Thanks Mike. Much as I expected - especially in this fabulous weather. Is there a count over a week/month?
I bet there are quite a few who only visit every few days or even less frequent.

T. . . . . . . . .;)

Tony.

You're all pitching low ;). I'll sort some real numbers out later if I stop feeling sick. Suffered a little in the heat of the ZedShed yesterday, should have drunk more water than I did...

Get as much into yourself as possible. Keep the fluids up. The numbers will keep....

On top of the daily stats on the front page HT mentioned, which shows somewhere between 140 & 180 visitors daily, there are other stats. The following shows how many people are active (those who take the time to login, rather than browse without an account).

Active Members 7 Days: 286
Active Members 30 Days: 532

Percentage wise these are actually quite high for a forum, as a lot of forums knowingly have inflated/invented member counts as they don't take such proactive measures to stop illegitimate account registration, or spammers!

As the visible stat counters are a value held in an SQL database table, it's incredibly easy to make a forum look more active than it is.

Our registration SPAM counter measures block a set list of countries from registering (you can probably take a guess as to which ones those are!). As a backup it also checks the username & IP address against known SPAMMER blacklists, and flags them for manual checking.

This means that I would say almost every account that's been created in the last couple of years is a legitimate human with some interest in BMW Zeds. If I spot something that comes through, then the account is deleted - which then feeds the details back to the SPAM blacklists and helps other participating forums reduce their SPAM.

Activity is an odd statistic to measure or quantify anyway, as a lot of "active" users may on read and not want to contribute.

Removed all off topic posts from this thread as well!

Brilliant information Gaz.
Great to know your overseeing it all at this level too. It doesn't just happen.

That's quite common JR. No real problem in my mind as long as people get what they need from the site!

I logged in regularly as I do with the Merc forum, but have to say that once I introduced myself I was made to feel really welcome. I've been a member of the Mercedes forum for around 6 years and have only posted around 30 times.

I was much the same with .net Garry, and I generally lapsed my interest but when I found this site and joined I was made to feel at home straight away. Never regretted joining here.:)

Tony.
