Another week, another Ferrari-powered car having issues with getting the wheels on
by Dan Thorn 6th April 2018

There have been plenty of accusations that Haas has been copying Ferrari, but now it looks it’s Ferrari which is stealing ideas from Haas.

It’s not the best idea to steal, though, as during FP2 Kimi left the pits with a cross-threaded front-right wheel nut and had to stop soon after - the exact same fate that befell the Haas drivers in Australia. Get your tinfoil hats ready, people…

FFS ....

Hamilton receives a five place grid penalty for Mercedes changing his gearbox this afternoon.
As per the rules, a gearbox should last for six races before it can be changed.

BREAKING Raikkonen fastest, Verstappen second
Kimi Raikkonen was fastest in session two and he has done it again in session three.

A very good afternoon for Red Bull with Max Verstappen second and Daniel Ricciardo third.

Fourth and sixth for Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton fourth and Valtteri Bottas sixth.

Where the hell did Raikkonen come from?
Bloody good show by Mad Max

'One of the more difficult weekends'
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff tells Sky Sports: "We don't look Jesus-like today and with the grid penalty we are doing everything we can to make (the show) spectacular.

"Let's see if the temperatures when it is cooling down makes it better for us, but certainly it is one of the more difficult weekends. We want to have a clean session and see where that ends up."

On Lewis Hamilton's five-place grid penalty, Wolff adds: "This is motor racing, these things happen and sometimes things go wrong."

Sebastian Vettel will head an all-Ferrari front row at the Bahrain Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton will start ninth after a grid penalty.

Hamilton qualified fourth behind Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen and his team-mate Valtteri Bottas but has a five-pace drop for an unauthorised gearbox change.

The star of qualifying was arguably Pierre Gasly in the Toro Rosso, who qualified sixth behind Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo.

Gasly's performance was embarrassing for McLaren, who are down in 13th and 14th.

Max Verstappen has blamed his early exit from qualifying on an a sudden engine glitch which caused him to spin.

by Dan Thorn7th April 2018

Verstappen had his second costly spin in two weeks in Bahrain as he dropped his Red Bull on the exit of Turn 2. However, unlike in Australia, this one dumped him into the wall, putting him out of qualifying.

Now we like to blame the current power units for a lot of the things that are currently bad about F1, and Max says it was the power unit that was to blame for his spin, and not a driver error.

I'm giving @hard top A chance to catch up this weekend. Tried to do predictions last week and couldn't due to FTP being offline, then by the time I remembered, it was locked!

Ho hum!

So far, not everyone has believed Mercedes' consistent claim that it would be a tight championship fight this season but it is looking increasingly accurate after two days of the second race weekend of the year.

Sebastian Vettel won in Australia largely because of luck, and a Mercedes strategy error, but Ferrari have the fastest car in Bahrain and the world champions have simply lacked pace.

Lewis Hamilton faces a tough fight through from ninth on the grid after qualifying fourth and earning a five-place penalty for a gearbox change. "If I can overtake, I will; if I can't, I won't," he said on Saturday after qualifying. "What will be, will be."

Living in the past?
Bernie Ecclestone is at the race today. He also appears to have turned up in a shirt with the old F1 logo on it. Trolling Liberty Media there?
