It did demonstrate that Lewis only became competitive once the track conditions suited the Merc. Botas demonstrated he's normally only competitive because of the car, and just gave up.
When Max said “To be honest, 90 percent of the field could win in that car", he was probably right.

Personally I don't think budget caps are going to level the playing field as there will be an awful lot of invisible money moving instead. Dyno'd engines with an "area below the curve" limit, would even things up. But Lewis on the top step is getting boring, even if this race did challenge that for a while.
