Lewis Hamilton headed Sebastian Vettel in second practice at the season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver was 0.149 seconds quicker than the German's Ferrari, which was 0.164secs ahead of Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo in third place.

Ricciardo's team-mate Max Verstappen was struggling, 0.9secs slower, and behind Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen and Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas.

Don't forget your predictions boy & girls, last chance to collect some points for this 2017 season.

The top three in the second session were only separated by two tenths of a second so it is all set up nicely for a tight day of action with the third practice session and then qualifying.
  1. Third practice session at 10:00 GMT, qualifying at 13:00 GMT
  2. Sebastian Vettel was fastest in first practice, Lewis Hamilton quickest in second practice

The best, worst and most bizarre moments of the season

Phillippa‏: The most bizarre moment has to be the Baku race! The whole Seb/Lewis incident, Riccardo winning & Stroll getting a podium!

Amit Mandalia: My defining moment of the season was the Singapore start. Changed the championship completely.

Guy: Best - Singapore Worst - Hungary. Most bizarre - Baku.

Lewis Hamilton set an impressive pace as Mercedes dominated the final practice session at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Hamilton was 0.273 seconds quicker than team-mate Valtteri Bottas with Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari more than 0.5secs adrift in third place.

The Finn's team-mate Sebastian Vettel was fourth, a further 0.017secs adrift.

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen were next ahead of McLaren's Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne.

Hamilton was consistently impressive, setting two laps within tiny fractions of each other, but each containing small mistakes, suggesting he could have been even further ahead had he put together a perfect lap.

Lewis Hamilton fastest in third session

He broke the track record on Friday, and has done that again today as Lewis Hamilton is the fastest in the third session, just as he was in session two.

It is a Mercedes one-two with Valtteri Bottas finishing ahead of the Ferrari pair Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.

Sebastian Vettel is third, with Daniel Ricciardo also on the second row after a fine late lap. Kimi Raikkonen is fifth.

Max Verstappen is sixth, with Nico Hulkenberg in seventh. Sergio Perez edges out his Force India team-mate, with Felipe Massa in 10th.

Williams driver Felipe Massa speaking ahead of his final race before retiring: "I am looking forward to the race. It is the only thing in my mind.

"Hopefully we can celebrate the race after with a good result. It is a great moment."

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner: "I am hopeful and reasonably confident we should have a better race car (than qualifying)".

"Mercedes will be in their own race, Ferrari we might be able to have a go at."

"All gloves are off in this last grand prix. I hope for people at home it will be an exciting one."

The grid
1. Bottas, 2. Hamilton, 3. Vettel, 4. Ricciardo, 5. Raikkonen, 6. Verstappen, 7. Hulkenberg, 8. Perez, 9. Ocon, 10. Massa, 11. Alonso, 12. Sainz, 13. Vandoorne, 14. Magnussen, 15. Stroll, 16. Grosjean, 17. Gasly, 18. Wehrlein, 19. Ericsson, 20. Hartley.

Why bring Hamilton into the pits? He was quicker than Bottas on those tyres.
I smell a rat. I think Mercedes want Bottas to win this grand prix and that is why they pitted Hamilton when they did.

Lap 25 of 55
Twenty-five laps gone and there are 19 of the 20 cars still running, with Daniel Ricciardo, yet again, the unlucky man at having to retire.

Lap 33 of 55
Sainz out
Disaster for Renault. Carlos Sainz's race is over.

"One of the wheels is not on."

He had just pitted, one of the wheels was not attached properly, and Sainz almost crashed on the exit to the pit lane.

He comes out on to the circuit and immediately regrets it. He has to stop straight away. Renault's hopes of jumping over Toro Rosso might have just self-destructed.

I think we are seeing that Mercedes don't really want Hamilton and Bottas to fight. They want Bottas to win this race.
