Alonso reprimanded for ignoring blue flags

McLaren driver Fernando Alonso has been reprimanded and handed penalty points for ignoring blue flags during the Japanese Grand Prix.

Alonso was battling Williams rival Felipe Massa for the final point at Suzuka when race leaders Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen approached.

Hamilton spent over a lap behind Alonso, before completing a move at the hairpin, with Verstappen following him through shortly afterwards.

Alonso was promptly reported to the stewards for ignoring blue flags and, after an investigation, given a reprimand and two penalty points.

this just stupid, Alonso was in a genuine battle with Massa for a points position. He should not be expected to sacrifice his chance of points for the benefit of another team regardless of being lapped.

Don't forget that this is a big weekend for Hamilton.
If he secures the world title, well, that's it then for the remaining races this season.....:(

Welcome to Formula 1, now get to the back......

Brendon Hartley was an encouraging 14th fastest in first practice, only to then be hit with a 25-place grid penalty because of engine-related issues before he joined Toro Rosso.
