Wow! Look at that! I'm chasing you @BMBabe !

Do keep up @hard top !

Really good to see 3 different teams on the podium, I do find total dominance makes for boring races.

Watched some of the race on the big screens at CarFest but no sound! Its like Formula E without commentary!
But did get to see and hear some proper sounding old school f1 cars running up Jody Sheckters drive!

The first segment of the qualifying hour is under way.
And it's raining even harder...

Team radio
"Rain is intensifying in the pitlane" says Pete Bonnington to Hamilton. "No need to take risks".

Grosjean crashes his Haas at the end of the pit straight. Aquaplaning.
Just moments earlier he had told his team: "Can't see where I am going - this is too dangerous."

Team radio
"I told you it was too dangerous," says Grosjean.
He sounds OK but pretty angry...

  1. Red flag after Grosjean crashes - session delayed until 13:30 BST

Haas driver Romain Grosjean speaking to Sky Sports: "We should have not gone out at all. I am pretty straight forward about that."

"The impact wasn't strong - I hit the barriers at an angle but spinning on a straight shouldn't happen in Formula 1".

Marcus Ericsson in the Sauber looked mighty unimpressed as he removed his head restraint and stepped from his car.

Update from race control
Race director Charlie Whiting has been speaking again:

"We can't get a very clear picture of what might happen. We are still waiting for water to drain off the track and then we will have to do the best we can to read the radar and see if this will clear up."

On Romain Grosjean's crash: "When we decided to go after that the conditions got a little bit worse. Unfortunately these things happen from time to time when drivers are pushing."

Andrew Evans: Drivers under pressure to race and push in conditions they know are unsafe... How soon we forget the lessons of 2014, eh?

Dave McManus: Got to restart now. Lightest rain all day at Ascari

Shane Daly: Gone are the days where racing drivers actually raced their cars, let them out and let us see them actually have to drive

Spray flying.

Another 15-minute delay looms.

Next update at 14:30 BST.
In a nod to providing a smidgen more info, race control adds that there will be a 10-minute warning before any restart.

None of the teams are sailing paper boats down the pit lane.
The soul of F1 is being torn out piece by piece.

Megan Walton: Was depressed to be in work missing quali, but not so much now!

Mark Meadows: Can't blame the drivers, they can only do what FIA allow them to do, several would rather be out

Dan Bell: F1 has gone soft. Some of the best races have been in the wet. Spa 1998 for example

Taking the pish out of Hamilton's poem he wrote the other day about Lady Diana.......:)

Red flags are red

Rain drops are blue

There's not been a crash yet

Oops spoke to soon!

****************************************************

There was a Frenchman from Haas

Whose language was crass

To Italy he went

And his wheel got bent

From having a very wet crash

****************************************************

Lap after lap

Mile after mile

The crowd did await

For Kimi to smile

****************************************************

There once was a man named Verstappen

Who got the orange fans clappin'

His Red Bull broke down

His smiled turned to a frown

And now he can't get a lap in

POLE POSITION FOR LEWIS HAMILTON

A 1:34.660 puts him top of the pile by a massive margin from Verstappen in second.

Mercedes team radio: "A hectic session there Lewis but brilliant. That's pole position and you've got yourself another record."

OK, these seems to be the times.

So, top 10 is...

1 Hamilton 1:34.660, 2 Verstappen 1:36.113, 3 Ricciardo 1:36.841, 4 Stroll 1:37.002, 5 Ocon 1:37.580, 6 Bottas 1:35.396, 7 Raikkonen 1:37.031, 8 Vettel 1:36.223, 9 Massa 1:37.456, 10 Vandoorne 1:37.471

Actually, reading through these, they are clearly out of whack. Goodness knows what's gone on.

Lewis Hamilton, whose 69th career pole - achieved at the end of an interminable, soaking qualifying session - surely ranks among the best of his career.
