A 1:39.487 for Lewis Hamilton - the quickest lap of the weekend. Nico Rosberg goes second quickest, one seconds slower than Hamilton.

Hamilton hammering it, Rosberg playing it safe?

I think Lewis Hamilton can be very very satisfied by that first run.

Max Verstappen goes fourth quickest with 1:39.903, but Daniel Ricciardo is half a second slower than his Red Bull team-mate. It might not be enough to get him through to Q3.

Now all that is needed is for something (or someone) to take Rosberg out, I would prefer it to be a technical problem though..

That's a fourth consecutive pole position for Lewis Hamilton. He's driven his heart out in the last few races but even that might not be enough. Remember a top three finish is all Nico Rosberg needs to win the title.

Stonking lap by Lewis, but I think Nico has got it all under control. Only technical problem will prevent him winning the title. #AbuDhabiGP

F1 title decider: Abu Dhabi build-up

Summary
  1. Lewis Hamilton on pole, Rosberg 2nd
  2. Top three finish secures the title for Rosberg
  3. Button and Massa's final F1 races
Two years ago Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg came to the final race in Abu Dhabi with the title on the line but that time it was the Briton with the advantage, holding a 17-point advantage with double points on offer. In the end, it was comfortable for Hamilton who took the lead at the start and powered away to win while Rosberg suffered mechanical problems and finished 14th.

My hope I Lewis wins this race and if Rosberg wins the championship that Lewis accepts it with genuine good grace. Game on.

Jenson Button is of the track and has a problem.

"We have a failure guys," says the Briton.

He's out. His final race in F1 ends in retirement. So disappointing.

"I don't think we've ever had a failure like this," says Button in a resigned tone.

Fair play to Rosberg, a deserved World Champion. Could be interesting next season as I think he's just shot a bear with an air rifle. Love to be a fly on the wall behind the scenes. Interesting and perfectly fair tactics by Hamilton, all the previous greats would have done the same.

Next year should be interesting, a fresh start with totally different cars which may suit some drivers more than others, as happened with Vettel and this car. I still think a Hamilton is a better out and out racer than Rosberg. Time will tell, roll on next March!
