Lewis Hamilton may have his critics, but there's no mistaking who the fans want to win here.

There were huge cheers as he secured that pole and there was excited chatter from those leaving the grandstands about the possibility of seeing another British win at Silverstone.

Asked about his relationship with team-mate Nico Rosberg after their last-lap collision at the Austrian Grand Prix, Hamilton adds: "I didn't think there was anything that needed to be cleared up. I will try to not be in that position again, I can't speak for Nico."

After finishing in P6, Sebastian Vettel will line up 11th on the grid after a five-place grid penalty for changing his gearbox for the second weekend in the row.

Max Verstappen out-qualifies his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo for the first time to take third on the grid.
"I've been a bit unlucky the last few qualifyings. Today was a very good qualifying.
"The car performed as it should be. We are strong compared to cars behind us. It seemed like the Mercedes had a turbo button."

Here we go, F1 Farce again. You can't go issuing time penalties after the trophies have been presented, it just wrecks the event for those that stood there all day and then watched the presentation.

If a penalty is to be issued after a race has finished it should be for the next race.

No, I agree with it, the rules are the rules, Rosberg asked for instructions and was told to avoid 7th gear, he asked "what does that mean" and was told to shift through it, thought he could have worked that one out by himself.

And Verstappen is in my team....
Will not be able to afford him next season.

but seriously, in my opinion, once trophies have been awarded the only thing that should be able to happen from that point on that affects the result should be a disqualification due to serious technical infringement discovered after the event. If there is an on-going stewards enquiry, either delay the podium or impose the penalty at the next race.

What if an up and coming driver that has never won a race gets second and collects his trophy. Then gets told an hour later "oh, by the way, you won, Nico will be round in a minute to drop your trophy off, and no you don't get the dreamed of moment of glory you've worked all your life for, and no, nobody will see it!"

I blame the stewards! Poor show!
