Hi Folks,

I recently purchased a 2.8 Z3. It has lowering springs all round but the back still sits like its standard (too high). I have found some second hand zmaxx springs for a 1.9 Z3 that will lower it 50mm that might be worth a punt on. Can anyone advise if these rear springs will be suitable for a 2.8?

I have had a look on the zmaxx site and the 1.9 and 2.8 are different part numbers but am wondering if this is just the front springs that will be different due to the increased weight of the engine.

@Steve Medlock has just removed a set of lowered rear springs he may be getting rid of them if you p.m him.
It could be that the rear springs are the same.
Rears @-50 will be low Apex springs are -35 and sit low , whats it look like now and what are you aiming for?
Any pics ?

Yes be careful , I have apex with 18" wheels and its low enough 50 might be a bit to low

1.9 springs have a different spring rate to the 2.8, so I'd look for the correct ones personally. 50mm is a large drop, particularly on budget springs with the wrong rates on them....

it would have to be a very stiff spring for a 50mm drop as there just isn't that much travel available between the bump stops.

Might be worth checking how thick the rubber pads are and if they're fitted top and bottom. IIRC they do come in different thicknesses.

Tony.

Hi personally I would go with Eibach or Apex all round and the correctly rated spring for the car. You still need to be able to drive and enjoy the ride, IMHO.

totally agree on the eibach springs, I went with the 30mm lower front/rear, don't try spax springs, awful!
that's a very nice looking z3, I do like them in silver

Thanks for the replies chaps. I was looking at getting the springs replaced all round but as the fronts would be getting done, I would be as well changing the dampers and top mounts too and the price starts creeping up.

As it sits nice already at the front I was hoping to get away with just replacing the rear springs. The springs all round at present are uprated (well they are red..) but no idea what they actually are!

Will look at the rubber pads as well as Dino has commented on that before.

if you put some rear spacers on that will help the look as the tears look sunken in making the gap bigger than it is.

Be careful with them shockers too, I just fitted some very similar to them but soon had a clunking noise ... Looks like the shockers were bottoming out... I will be ordering bilstiens as had to put the originals back on... No clunking

When I had bottoming out at the rear it was because the 6kg BC Racing springs where too short/soft and the spring was bottoming not the damper - you can tell if there are marks on the springs.
That said the BC damper is adjustable so I think it could be longer than regular dampers when wound out so it could indeed be your damper but worth a check anyway that it's not the springs.

I put the original shocks back on and the noise has stopped, when I had them side by side the originals collapsed further than the yellow ones , so that made me think it's the shockers

OH dear, so another $$ splash out for bilsteins?
I'll have to drive it when they're fitted

Wow, big difference for sure.
Some spacers and you sorted.
Hard to tell from the pic but looks like at least 25mm for the rears.
