@bombur presented his 1.9 at the shed today equipped with a new intake boot and a new top hose to sort the cracking boot and the cracked plastic on the top hose we found last week that was showing up as a bubble of coolant appearing. Top hose fitted with minimum loss of coolant and the intake boot went in without problems. Paul has been getting belt squeel so turned our attention to the aircon drive belt which seemed to be the source, Checked out the adjustable idler pully, cleaned trhe back face and the reinstalled using a long hex key to apply the tension then tightening the retaining bolt, the idler os a eccentric fitting to achieve the tension on the belt. Ran the engine and no squeels after retensioning, belts in good condition only slight cracking starting to show so they will be on the list for replacement by next year. The car has an aircon leak towards the front rhs where the pipe joints are, recent regas with dye seems to have found the leak, now this needs some further research to see what its going to cost to fix this.
Ended todays visit by doing a quick pressure wash of the rear wheel arches and off he went back to the seaside.
Some jobs he is going to have a go at himself is the sorting of the passenger seat that is missing one of the motors and spindles, also got an eye on sorting the sills out as they are showing signs of corrossion front and rear, be interesting to see what the inners are like when the outers are removed. Good Winter project ahead for this job.

Been there so many times now I can probably reverse in eyes closed next time lol! Thanks again @colb and nice to drive away with no urgent jobs to do! looking forward to giving the passenger seat motor a go. For the sills it could be a Sat trip to Zedshed West after the Summer to check on them and then see if I need new ones and look at the inner ones. Dont think I can do that job myself...baby steps!.

Thanks once again for all you help and advice.

Securing with cable ties the **$$++@@ or whatever its called (@colb ?). Only used for first 15 sec of cold start

The rivets holding the top on the secondary air pump are letting go, there are a couple of options to fix, take the whole thing out and cap the head end with one of @t-tony custom sealing plates or replace all those rivets with some suitable sized nuts and bolts that will clamp it together, look better than the temp tie wraps. Would seem a waste of that new plastic hose if it was removed, nut and bolt would get my vote and it keeps the car stock retaining the pump.

Just when I though I could relax- it looks like Im missing an exhaust suspension bracket! Back to Sopers I go!

New bracket hanger fitted yesterday at Zed Shed Cymru, another inspection of the system revealed the hanger before the back box was not there, must have fallen off long ago when the welds on the pipe gave up. Making up a replacement using an exhaust U clamp and strap.

Forgot about the spare, also forgot to use some cable ties through the secondary air pump rivits to clamp the top on it better to seal the top, sized some small ties up on mine as a test and they work a treat in clamping it up.
