I managed to get a bit of time on Zed this afternoon. Fitted one of the 'Night Breaker' bulbs to the 'new' headlight and removed the other headlight to take home and clean up and fit the bulb.
I was unable to get a headlight renovation kit in time as my local 'factors' had sold out, and I wanted to get them done as soon as possible. Zed should be getting discharged on Friday, if all is well. That should save me a few bob on grapes and squash!
I was pleased with the results of my labours considering the state it was in. I started with a green scouring pad dipped in a cleaning paste called 'Astonish', not sure where I got it from as I've had it for years, but it is a mild abrasive paste and did the job well. Next came the 'Cif' applied with a soft cloth, then finally liquid 'Brasso', again with a soft cloth, then finished with a clean cloth, commonly known in the trade as 'an old vest'. The trouble was, I was so eager to get started that I forgot to take a 'before' picture. Anyway, here's the after one, I'm not saying it's perfect but I am happy:
And here are some pics of Zed in ICU
We were contemplating making a hardtop out of the front unit. It didn't quite fit!
This is the side where there was a 'ding', I'm do not know what had hit it, it was there when I bought the car, it was about a foot long, slightly angled down from back to front and about half an inch (12mm) deep. No paint was cracked, just the dent. I thought it could have been a shopping trolley because of the height. Anyway, now sorted!
The next two pics are what have been stopping me from working on the ramp! I need to do an oil change and get the new brake hoses on. But it looks like I am going to have to wait for good weather and use my mates driveway.
Ah well, at least Zed should be finished by the weekend. Although, thinking about it, I don't mind if he stays there for a while. It's going to be carp weather over the next few days, and he'll be in the dry!
