Z4 seats in a Z3 or E36 M3 or classic buckets.

These are a commonly asked couple of questions but in my experience never been answered fully When looking high and low for the answers. I have been to as many sources as google shows me - honest.

1) can you fit Z4 seats in a Z3 ? Do they fit (across the shoulders is my biggest concern) and how much work is involved.

2) in the UK anyone fitted bucket types seats (I’m after the classic car look) and if so whose floor brackets etc did they need modifying?

3) anyone fitted E36 or E42 seats as an option. The M3 seats are very nice but again may be too wide and also the floor fittings not match

Thanks for reading this. I welcome any advice. I’m converting a Z3 into a different style car and the Z3 seats are ok but I’d prefer ones with a headrest style.

Hi @Tim beard did you fit Z4s into your red Kobra ? I seem to recall they looked like them. ?

Thanks again all

Dave

Check out the california 250 build threads, I think they use a rover seat to get the classic look

Thanks for that steer. I’ve seen a 250SWB also with Rover 75 seats (attached to the Z3 seat base). They look good and are bloody comfy. But sit too high for me. I’m not a tall person but seem to have my height in my torso (short legs long body). So 75 seats are an option if I cannot find another path.

I like the look of the E36 M3 seats but without buying them and seeing I’m not sure if they are what I can use.

I found some Z4 seats with headrests but will probably have the same issue with them.

I do like a challenge though :)

Had this M3 in the shop a while ago and the interior had just undergone restoration, its the same colour that I have used on the Mseats, they do look a tad on the wide side

I think @Trevor did a seat upgrade a little while back but can't recall what he used

I had thought about this after doing an mot on an f30 with some really nice seats .
Measured the bolt hole width and length that will be ok my concern as stated is the shoulder width of the seat and whether the roof will fit round it

Correct Sean, they use the Rover 75 seats.

MGB seats will fit, I bought a pair to fit mine. They go in fine but you will need to make some brackets to fit the original
seat bases which shouldn't be too tricky. Mine, unfortunately, is still a work in progress.

Thanks Steve,

I have just tried the seat lifting mod so will see how i feel after a while with the seats tipped.

Id prefer classic seats that can have headrests when needed.

All of our kits are work in progress :)

MGB seats have removable headrests, mine will be permanently removed to give more of a classic look. Have a look at a Cobra seat and then a MGB, not that different, except for the price.

Good point about price. My search will continue

I got these M3 E36 Vader’s for a good deal and this was a whole test fit on my Z3. The brackets are a little spaced out on the passenger side but it will provide you and idea how they will look. However I’m may needing some ideas on brackets
