Z4 E89 2016 hardtop rattle over bumps fix

I have the product spec for the E89 that includes a good description of the hardtop system.
The only catches I can see are those on the cowl above the windscreen.

Lots of sensors that are used to control the various hydraulic valves, but no more catches. I can only assume that the pressure in the hydraulics is sufficient to keep the various components locked in position.

There are quite a few cables and lines running around the system. These can be seen with the roof partially open/closed. It could be one of these that is rattling around when not under stress.

Sorry I don't, but I would say that they will be somehow. All door, boot and bonnet catches are so I can't see these being any different.
The E89 has a rear window which is encompassed within one of the roof sections, same as Shirl's Eos and if i open the boot lid i can put my hands under the back edge of that section and tell it is locked down so perhaps you can do that on the E89.
I haven't had much experience with the E89 so can't really be sure.

Unfortunately you cant do this on the z4 Tony as it settles on a flat tray outside of the boot space I do wonder it it is licking correctly though

I think that is a Hall-effect sensor to detect the roof panel open. E refers to the location photo showing just that sensor.

There is the soft-locking mechanism on the boot panel, that is so far back and substantial, I can't see that rattling very much.

Pretty sure this is the rear section locking point. I was wondering if the rear section isnt locking and the rear is bouncing a bit when driving

Think we're zeroing in on the problem Niall.
Looks like that is just a post that guides the roof down, but, it doesn't appear to lock. However, this post might be a clue.

It looks like the rear roof section can vibrate there.

David,
I am a few months late seeing this. Mainly because I just joined this week.

However I also have a 2016 Z4 with what sounds like the exact same noise problem. I hear it when I hit bumps coming from the passenger rear of the car. Since I have a bit of warranty left we took it in. BMW tech said he lubed it and didn't hear the noise. They were about closed when I picked up the car and within minutes of driving it was still there.

Have you had any resolution to your noise issue yet?
