Nets, trawls, mmm... fish.

Not sure why short drive shafts should raise any eyebrows. Short drive shafts are an enhancement - less twist between the diff flange and the wheel = less torque wasted when you accelerate.

AFAIK, the LSD on the M is the same type as later Z3 LSDs (TorSen). Ratio is probably different. If the casing is stronger, it's for the same reason that the gearbox casing is stronger - because of the max engine torque being too much for the standard stuff.

Cosmetic differences such as mirrors and bumpers make it look a bit different, but it's the engine that makes it different. And it's the same (or better) engine in the cheaper E46 M3.

I'm not sure it makes an M Roadster two or three times better than a Z3, but the market seems to think so - or, at least it did.

Not trolling, just trying to find justification why peeps would spend their money on an M Roadster instead of a Z3 and an M3.

Anyway, off to bed now as I'll be blasting the cobwebs out of the quad pipes tomorrow:).

It's actually a clutch pack diff rather than torsen

Once you have an Z3M unfortunately no other Z will do. Once you have been turned to the M side you don't want anything else. The M3 ? It's got four seats so not for me . Yes prices are falling so it is a good time to buy. Not thinking of torching your car for the insurance Pingu are you ?

I had a Z4M
I like my Z3 2.8 (and even the mrs's Z4 3.0) better.....

All I could do was polish the Z4M, and get flashed at for appearing to be like driving like a loony on normal streets.
Yes it was an 'occasion' to drive, it shouted at me when I put my foot down and it kicked me back in the seats like nothing else I have had, but even that exhaust note was not to my liking, it wasn't a v8 burble or a boxer engine sound, it was a loud raspy tinny fart.
And then as regards shows, I would go to meetings and people said 'nice car'. But I did not want it because of its 'Z4forum type' bragging rights, alongside their £5,000 watches and bicycles they may own.

With the Z3 (and 3.0 Z4) its 'oh I have seen you have done this', 'how do you find that?', 'where did you get?' 'I want to do that'

There is so much more involvement than with the bog standard, out of the factory "must keep it original' ///M that people would just walk past after seeing that it looked like 100's of other ones ever made.

The other cars, well, I can tinker with, modify, upgrade. restore,
and enjoy the sideways performance without thinking I am going to kill myself when the roads are wet or cold.
itch scratched, and to be honest an expensive learning lesson with stupidly disproportionate running costs. eg £500+ a year road tax, and £1200 service costs
Would I do it again.... No chance

So in my own experience
"Once you have been turned to the M side..... you wont bother again"

I am sure 'Other opinions are available'....

Dead right. I thought about it while I was in bed. Had to get up for work, so came on here to correct my mistake.

I'm not sure which is better. I would guess the TorSen used on the rest of the fleet is too weak, so they stuck with the clutch packs.

Bad thing = they wear out, Good thing = they can be replaced more cheaply than a busted case following a shattered gear on a TorSen. Clutches for me, every time.

Mine looks standard:whistle:, but the list I sent to the insurer's was two pages.

I went through a period when I daren't drive it. I couldn't justify wrapping £15k around a tree when I'd only paid £6k for it. Now, I think of it as a cheaper car, I'm much happier to drive it again.

I'm glad I DIY the servicing and that the VED is only £20pcm when not on SORN.

Grumps

Always happy, apart from when I'm not 🤬

Won't get any backlash from me!

I agree, I want to keep the coupe as original as possible, most of my mods are under the hood so to speak with suspension changes, intake and exhaust. I want to keep the miles down too due to the value, hence I bought the roadie

I have much more fun making changes to the roadie, such as wheels, interior, lights etc
