Had a bit of hassle getting the n/s strap off, one hell of a lot of rust clamping the end in place where it hooks over a flimsy looking bit attached with a couple of spot welds to the bulkhead, and I didn't fancy getting too violent with it so I I gave it a good soaking with penetrant and left it for a few days. Anyway, it's off at last and not before time, either. This is what was left of the strap:eek:

Yes nearside held on more than the offside but let go with a bit of side to side rocking, Mazza's instructions are spot on with where to cut the old straps so they are at the correct angle to wiggle them up and off.

The 2 sets I have replaced looked positively brand new in comparison

cut the old straps? I wish.

I used the little plastic bag, cut and folded a bit, to line the new hook. Who knows, maybe in another twenty years I'll be wanting to do the job again.

That's one hell of a maybe.

And as for

there's "reduce/reuse/recycle". And then there's "not a 'kin chance".

Update on the Z3M straps.......

Picked up the machined blocks and the straps that have had two countersunk holes added today.
All looks good.
The stop bracket will be ready on tuesday, then I will take all the bits to get them powder coated.

Screws are on order and should be with me early next week.

I found some longer M6 screws just to set it up and it all checks out dimensionally against the original part.

I will fit the block before sending any out and it will have loctite on the threads. I will also supply a new M6 x 12 hex flanged head bolt that holds the lower strap to it.

Is the Z3M straps still available ?
Thanks

Hi. One of my tank straps broke today after going over a speed bump:oops: I've got a 97 2.8 auto. Do you have a set of straps I could buy?

Yes I have all the parts but will have to assemble the cushions and get a set ready for despatch.
Will have a set ready to ship on Monday.
