I have a 1999 z3 and am looking for a wind deflector and maybe a roll bar. I have only just purchased the car so not experienced.
Does anyone have one ? Any advice which one to buy ?

There are some roll hoops and parts for sale on here. Think its @mrscalex thats selling it. @Lee had some defectors made up, I don't know if he has by left. They will both be on now I've tagged them.
Oh and welcome to the forum from Mansfield.

I've had my car for about 3 years and still not got the wind deflector sorted - mainly because I've been tempted to other things.

The wind deflectors are different if you have roll hoops so I'd start by working out if you want those or not to ensure you buy the right wind deflector. I have fitted roll hoops to mine (bought from another forum member who was breaking an old car) and really like the look. It seems to me that there's a greater range of wind deflectors available if you have hoops too.

They're available as OEM or after market and also in perspex and netting. Its pretty difficult (in my experience) to find high quality original parts - which would be my preferred choice - as the cars are after all 20 years old and have a fair degree of wear and tear.

Good luck with it all and welcome from Milton Keynes!

Hello and welcome to the forum. A lot of people on here, including myself have retro fitted OEM roll hoops

Welcome - as others have said you are better off buying OEM roll hoops from one of our `resident car breakers' - I bought mine and OEM deflector from @Synclare (others are available).
If you go on eBay etc many of the ones advertised are cosmetic use only.

Can any of the different designs of wind deflector be folded down when the roof is up? My car came with a perspex deflector which attaches to the back of the roll hoops with four velcro straps. It's fine when the roof is down, but with the roof up access to the rear window is impossible, so if the rear screen steams up in rain, there is no hope of wiping it, and very little chance of the heater vents getting a draught of air to the window. It's a PITA to have to remove the deflector each time you put the roof up, and if the boot is loaded where do you put it. So as I result I haven't used it so far.

When I had an MGF the glass rear deflector was hinged and folded flat when not required. Brilliant design.

Never took my Type 1 wind deflector off the car even with the hardtop on, cut out headlight glare from cars behind you at night.

I leave mine in the Z4 for the same reason Mike stated, plus I had a Perspex panel cut to fit in mine as well.

Tony.

ps. You can make one for yourself if you have OEM roll bars by doing the same as here, cuts costs and you can make it easy removable if you need to.

Hi Chris

I too have a 1999 z3 without roll bars. Unlike most people, I like the 'without' look as it goes with the retro design of the car.
I bought and fitted a wind deflector from Just Roadsters last summer.
For me the jury is out on whether a wind deflector works for me, I love driving with the windows down and the deflector only seems to work with them up.
The wife definitely prefers it as it doesn't mess her hair up so much.
This deflector is designed so the roof can go over it, but I tend to remove it as it is easy to take off, just 2 thumb screws.
Good luck with what you decide to do. Go to some of our meets and cruises, then you can see other zeds and what they have had done.

The mesh ones unzip in the center and fold down if you want.

Welcome from Rochdale.

There are a few Z3 deflectors on eBay. I have been on the site as I'm looking for one for my Z4
