Hi

I have been comparing old write ups between the Z and the Porker and wondered how many of you here considered one before settling on the Z? If so, what was your main reason for one over the other? Highly unscientific but when I was after a sports car and impulsively purchased my one, the Boxter never came into the equation but appears to have suffered harder depreciation than the BMW- I am assuming down to the shape not really changing over the years and subsequent volume made.

Anyone here have experience of both?

I have a m roadster and my wife has a boxster s. both comparable speed wise, m is slightly quicker. The boxster I think is a bit more refined, a bit more grown up. When I bought my previous z3 the Porsche never came into my mind either. Still think I made the right choice.

the 2.7 boxter was double the insurance of my 2.8 Z3 and parts are ALOT more expensive. The boxter also suffers from bieng a porche, which means people will think your a bit flash, even though youve bought a car based on handling and speed and not on ''bieng a porche''.

I seem to remember thinking after I bought the M that the Boxter was similar class but didn't give it any other thought. i knew what I wanted at the time and glad I went with it. Seeing some of the similar aged Boxters about they don't look to have aged as well as the Z3, in my opinion.

I'm with you badman gee plus boxers are as common as muck, give me a z3 any day.

I came very close to buying a very nice Black Boxster 3.2S and changed my mind after a bit of research, some of the prices of parts were horrific. I stumbled across a Z3 3.0 so did a bit more research and found the performance was very similar. I've had to make a few adjustments to the Zed's suspension and now I would say it has excellent handling properties as well as good straight line speed, much like the Boxster.

My opinion is this, the Boxster is an excellent car but it doesn't justify the extra buying/running costs and in all honesty, I prefer the look of a Z3. The Boxster is a pretty car, but I'm not sure pretty is my kind of thing. The Z3 seems much more hairy chested. B-)

Interesting responses. The Z3 has really grown on me since I purchased it and I feel £ for £ they are par build quality. It will be interesting to see if BMW release a new Z3 as was rumoured somewhere on the web....
