I believe it's simply the tint on the lenses is the illegal part. May be wrong though! Mr MOT is that correct? JIM
Just another querk of the M.O.T. Jim, it's illegal to drive on fog light and side lights only. Front fog lights are not a testable item and therefore not part of the test. This time, you go figure.=))

And here we need to have DRL it's been mandated for quite some time as the studies prove they do actually prevent accidents. Most cars have a lower setting built into the headlight bulbs and it is actually illegal to use fog lights except in foggy situations. That is partly the reason why we can't bring cars in from anywhere but Mexico and the USA other than those 15 yrs or older and due to different safety standards world wide. JIM

And that's the bit I can't get my head round Jim, you can't drive on side lights and front fogs, but you can drive with DRL's which don't illuminate the rear (tail) lights. Are you figuring again? Anyway my car will be 15 years old this year .............

i dont understand what the problem is with running spots in the day or night if they are properly aligned, its safer as you are more visible day or night...
Totally agree but unfortunetly I don't make the laws. I figure the brighter I can make myself lessens the chance someone will hit me. My friend had borrowed one of my cars and hadn't switched the DRL on and got a ticket but they make it out to the registered owner. He didn't tell me and I was on our west coast. Got home to a court summons and a $275 plus court cost fine. Snoozed my way out of paying but still had to plead guilty. Now the pr(&&) k hit a steel garbage bin and the car's not worth going through the hassle with our insurance so total loss for being a good guy. JIM

Tony the rears also illuminate when the car is started. It's 15 yrs from the mfg date on your certification label not of the date it got first registered because the car could have sat on a dealers lot for over a year before it finally sold. So your car is most likely over the 15 years already. JIM
