They are rusted together so wouldn't trust it even if it does come apart. Plan to do the same as you and just check it every so often.

Hope the new wheel is as good as the picture when it arrives!
Did you receive the wheel yet, just want to know if I should go into hiding

Having read one to many accounts of cracked alloys & unrepairable punctures recently we now have not only a tyre inflation kit but also a new spare wheel. So belt & braces approach to flat tyres now!

Here's the old spare

Don't think this has been out of the carrier since it left the factory in 1997! Surprisingly still holding air.

In absolutely pristine as new condition.
AS advised by Dakar we wiped it over with WD40 before putting it in the carrier. Also wrapped it in a plastic bag, not sure whether this is a good idea but it seemed like the best option.

We have also got one or two small but important jobs done recently. The arial grommets have been renewed inside & out & also the door handle gaskets & we have replaced the black kidney grills with a new set of chrome grills. We never felt that the black grills suited the car even though they were original to it, not a good enough contrast to the Montreal blue. Feel much happier with the chrome.

Just need to fit the Zunsport lower grill that we got from Paul Rice last year to complete the look.

Oh what a difference, the new wheel is as you say brand new looks like it’s never been fitted still wearing the dimples,
Those new chrome grilles certainly give it a facelift that’s for sure, I think the black Grilles made the front look drab, but then everybody’s got different tastes.

regards
John

That's just what we thought. The chrome really brightens the front up, but as you say everybody's got different tastes.

Cheers

I bought my 2001 2.5 roadster last April and just got around to checking out the Space saver spare a couple of weeks ago. It was totally shredded. I can’t imagine how it got so torn up or why the previous owner bothered to put it back under the car. It was in a plastic tray that had a cool air pressure extension so you could check the pressure without dropping the tire. Anyway, I went to a local tire shop who said the original size was no longer available, but there was one just a few mm bigger. Problem is, it won’t fit the plastic tray and I had to force it into the holder “naked”. So, now the cool tray is in the basement.
