Hi All,

Thanks for all the welcome messages and as I never managed to do a progress thread on my previous car I thought I would start one with my new little find.

I picked up my new Z3 2.0l Roadster yesterday and what initially was supposed to be a runaround for a few months has converted into a project after I drove it home from the garage and loved the ride.

It is a 2000 model and cost me just over 1k. The exterior is in pretty good condition apart from a few scratches and some laquer peel on the bonnet and rear bumper.

Mechanically it is sound with only 88k on the clock and starts up 1st time and sounds lovely.

The interior is where most of the work is needed in terms of the seats are dirty and drivers side ripped and there is some tape on the passenger door card so need the damage there. There are a few other things also which will need a bit of TLC.

Performance wise I am not really going to do much as any map will not really gain much so will probably only do a few bits like intake and exhaust system.

Never had a BMW so will be a new learning curve as like to do most stuff myself and finding out where I can get parts from.

First thing on the list will be a good clean inside and out this weekend but I have added some pics of how it looks now and hopefully will gradually get better and better over time.

Welcome, again, from Mansfield.

Nice to see some pics of your Zed

Got 2 myself. One Silver and one Blue, both 1.9

For parts I’ve got bits from various members of the forum - many thanks lads , and also got a fair few bits from Andy - @spurs fan in a coupe. Top bloke and helped out with parts that I was after as he breaks Zeds.

Welcome to the forum and the world of BMW (BMW world, why use 3 screws when 20 will do)
Nicely located for plenty of Zed activities come the spring.

@Z3_Irish the lovely chap that has seats for sale is @spurs fan in a coupe  he will be able to help you upgrade from cloth seats to leather :D
Thanks Stacey, yes @Z3_Irish I have red leather seats, black standard seats (post facelift connectors) and black sport seats for sale too.

In fact I have most things Z3 related, piles of wheels, spare parts, nice after market roof, black hard top with fitting kit, HID angel eyes with ballast kit, with matching HID angel eye fogs, clear or smoked prefacelift rear light clusters.... you get the idea!

I somehow think you are going to become my favorite person if you have all these parts in stock. Off the top of my head the I am probably looking for:

Leather seats, probably black and not sure if there is an option to fit heated
Drivers side wing mirror
Passenger side door card possibly

This is just to fix the parts that are damaged but may want to upgrade other parts depending on what you got like Alloy wheels etc :)

So not managed to do much on the car as been putting my old one back to standard before selling.

However the apparent electric roof problem the dealer said it had actually was just him not pressing the brake pedal when operating so there was nothing wrong in the 1st place.

Also noticed the up and down on the drivers seat did not work so removed the seat and noticed the metal bit with the turn screw in was detached somehow.

Gave the whole things wd40 spray, bang with a wrench to get loose and wound back until I could align the metal part with the black lever and fastened together with a makeshift but and bolt and now all working fine :)

Thanks, think my next few updates will be around fixing the last few issues and then can start modding which needs to be done with headlights, wheels and seats 1st on the list :)
You seem to be getting in to the Zed thing :p
@spurs fan in a coupe can help with parts give him a shout
Some of us have been known to do relays with parts to help get them to different places

Hi and welcome. If you fancy going beige on the interior I have some excellent leather seats and door cards in the for sale section @ £250 the lot to a forum member in the for sale section. I am not too far away in North Shropshire.

Thank you for the offer and wish I wanted to go Beige as seen a few sets for quite cheap but looking to go black. Failing that I have looked into dying a set black but seem the DIY is not straight forward
