Hi.i am new to the forum. I have a 2001 Z3 and the rubber trim round the rear windscreen is coming away. My (not very good) local BMW dealer says I need a new roof! Some people say it is part of the plastic rear windscreen and I just need to replace that. Any advice as to what to do would be gratefully received.

Hi @Tyrrell, :welcome: to the forum from me too in Staffordshire. If you do go down the route of a new roof, do not go to BMW. There are lots of places but one which gets lots of good feedback is Jack Smith in Swansea. About £350 now for a complete new roof fitted.
I had my 3.0 done there but lots on here have used him.;)

I think it is part of the rear window, the fabric roof shrinks and the trim comes away and you end up with a gap usually on the corner. I roughly stitched mine together and applied some black sealant as it was just the corner. As I only use the car with the roof down it didnt matter.
If you want a proper job it might mean a new roof.

The rubber seal is part of the window.
For a genuine BMW window you're looking at over £200 + fitting, i paid a local trimmer £60 to fit mine.
This was 5 years ago and before I found out that a new roof with stitched in window was only £350 including fitting .

A new rear window should fix that. If the hood is in otherwise good condition, that would be my way forward.

I had a similar but smaller issue. I stretched it back into position and sealed with super glue. You cannot tell now and it has passed a shower or two. Perhaps not a permanent fix but has worked for me.
