I now BMW sold (sells?) some fancy protection for when the rear plastic window is folded, but I just didn't feel the price was right… My more prosaic solution:

As befits an sport's car, the motifs are beach and sport. :)

Be careful, I used a towel and it was a bit too thick and caused scratches on some parts of the window. Better to get a piece of polar fleece which is much thinner and easier to carry around for when you want to put the roof down.

Good stuff. I thought thicker stuff would work better, but will try the polar fleece.

So, I followed your advice and go this polar fleece cut to size:

Looks better too.

I think I will add an elasticated band and hook, like the BMW one….

I use a microfibre towel it works well ! Just need to put some elastic on to hold in place while operating the roof

I bought a thin cat blanket from B&M for less than £10 although can get them anywhere..Its nice and thin and soft and does the trick to stop the creasing

Dang! Wish I'd known, or at least had the imagination to think of this sooner. My rear window was virtually new when I bought car. It still looks okay, but might have stayed less creased and scratched...

Some people have the gold standard: cloth with a bit of foam pipe insulation positioned at the point where the window folds so that it folds nicely around the pipe.

Thats what I have done since I first had a Z3

Foam -pile insulation from Wickes … def good idea where the fold is
