Hi All,
It appears we all have an issue with the power steering low pressure return pipe. This is the steel pipe which runs from steering rack outlet (via a banjo fitting), along the front of the steering rack to the cooling loop. I believe the pipe is standard across all Z3 engines and generations.
BMW no longer manufacture this part 32411094452. I rang my local dealership, I was quoted £315 including VAT for a part they can't supply! I have heard similar stories from other Z3 owners.
I have put considerable effort into trying to create a like for like solution, it has proven to be surprisingly tricky but successful.
The part created is made from high quality components and highly spec'd with the assistance of a UK hydraulics firm.
This pipe can be installed by an able / competent DIY mechanic otherwise we suggest you get in touch with your local garage. It is no more than an hours work plus a bottle of power steering fluid.
I will provide a complete kit which will comprise of:
Banjo Pipe and hose. BMW equivalent part number 32411094452. Please choose the zinc plated or powder coated version.
Dowty Washers x2 (These are a significant improvement on standard crush washers as they incorporate a rubber seal)
Banjo Bolt
Stainless Steel Retaining Clamps for the flexible hose
Stainless steel retaining clips and bolts
Hopefully this is of great interest to us all!!!!
This is a high quality part made specifically for the Z3. I am certain they will do our cars service for another 20+years.
You can either buy the part directly from me via the forum, please send me a message.
Alternatively you can go to www.zedonist.com if you'd prefer to use your credit card etc.
I also have the part for sale on eBay. Unfortunately due to eBay's increased sellers fees the price has to be higher through their platform.
All the best
Martin
