The reason they should measure the oil temperature is that the gas analyser then knows that the oil is at the correct temperature and alters the parameters of the test on certain vehicles. It may or may not affect the overall outcome of the test BUT at least you know it was given a fair chance to pass.
Many texting station do not do this which is wrong as so.e vehicles fail when they ought to pass.
Some testers are ignorant of the fact also.

Tony.

Fail sheet shows a temperature of 89.5. Or are my eyes getting worse? Did get some reading glasses earlier this year but not got them on just now.
And surely the point of the engine being hot is that it'll run a whole lot cleaner once it's up to temperature? Those of us old enough to remember the good old days of having to pull out a choke knob and experiencing the delicious flavour of over-rich fuelling will know exactly what I mean.

Thanks... I realise i should have posted the figures rather than a picture which easily gets lost on a multipage thread. Here they are:
Model 3 Series (E36)
Z3 Roadster 1.8i/ 1.9i Engine Code 19 4E 1 – First Used before 01/07/2002
Catalyst Equipped vehicle with closed loop control

Oil Temp Min 60 Measured: 89.6 OK
Fast Idle Test OK

Speed Min 2650/Max 2750 Measured: 2628: OK
CO %Vol Max 0.3 Measured: 0.3 OK
HC ppmvol Max 200 Measured: 62 OK
Lambda Min 0.97/Max1.03 Measured: 0.990 OK
Natural Idle Test NOT OK
Speed Min 650/Max 950 Measured 807 OK
CO %Vol Max 0.2 Measured 2.93 NOT OK

P.s. Just about to SORN the car to get tax refund for Nov onwards... any particular reason why i shouldn't... i think that w/o an MoT the only place i can drive it is the MoT test station, and it makes no difference whether i have tax or not in that case?

Yes you will be ok to drive the vehicle to a prebooked MOT test by a direct route if the vehicle is on SORN. It must have valid insurance when you do so.

Yeah, thanks... I'm going to keep the insurance running for a while... that's considerably cheaper than the £290 it costs to tax a tiny Z3/1.9 per year!
p.s. i noticed on the "how many left" website that a considerable number of old Z3's only get taxed for 6m of the year...
