Recently had same issue on our BMW E36 323i (M52B25 2.5 ltr 6 pot). Change of camshaft sensor (OEM) has made it drive perfectly again; well worth doing.

Just looked again and definitely not there; Bentley says it is "mounted at left side of cylinder head near front" -
Bentley's 'Left side' assumes you are sat in the car. Looking from the front you will find it hidden under the Vanos solenoid on the right hand side of the head.

Just looked again and definitely not there; Bentley says it is "mounted at left side of cylinder head near front" - under the fuel injector rail cover. I'll have a more in depth look over the weekend.

A (hopefully) final question on the subject, if I leave it as is for the time being, apart from the stalling issue, will this cause damage to the engine?

Simon
Run the video and stop it at 6.03. The guy is pointing at the inlet camshaft position sensor. Don’t continue to run the engine for long with this fault as you risk unburned fuel going through the Cat(s) which can damage them.

Tony.

Inlet camshaft sensor replaced (by my local friendly BMW specialist as I didn't have the space or time) a couple of weeks ago and all seems well. Many thanks for all the helpful responses 👍 Now to try and sort out the alarm issues!
